First "The Franchise", Now "The Dime"

Saw video and raced to the BB board to see if anyone else caught the significance. You did.

What's on the reverse of the dime? Any info on who made the dime?

I will have to respectfully disagree that this is a slick marketing campaign, I feel like we are becoming a joke, a school with consistently mediocre teams but this ridiculous and over the top marketing campaigns for our players who always perform poorly the season after their inception.

Fair point based on the sample size of the last 2 with injuries, but I would just suggest that I doubt any other teams pay attention to our niche marketing campaigns in order to spend time thinking about whether they are a joke or not. The target audience here is first and foremost the students, second local fans, and to some extent the media that covers NU out of whom we will probably get an extra RT of two from this that hopefully hits a few more local fans or students. It's pretty cheesy yes, but I doubt it's gonna hurt anything, so I appreciate the effort. Hope BMac stays healthy and starts a new trend!

Persastrong ruined these campaigns for a lot of fans forever. That was absolutely the worst. Why are we wasting our money on this? Does anyone think Wilbon, Rovell, Seth Davis and every other fan of either NU or Collins WON'T make it known if Mac is having a great year?

Ricko is right. This isn't some slick national campaign - this is a silly reminder that 'hoops is here' and 'NU plays hoops' and 'holy jeez Mac gets a lot of assists'.

I think it's funny. If I shared things other than right wing conspiracy theories on Facebook, I would have shared this video.

It's not even campaigning for anything - no reference to Wooden or All B1G or Cousy (I think) award - just, "heh, this kid is good" (and, also, "look, we have seniors").

No risk. I hope there were some retweets. I also hope Mac doesn't blow out his shoulder later this month (knocking on wood).

"Becoming" a joke? The only Power conference school to never go to the NCAA tournament? Yeah, NU was respected until they started making videos.....

Its all about recruiting. The players seem to be having a blast with it. It looks fun to high school recruits and it shows that the school believes in these kids and celebrates them. Its all good.

Agreed. While not terribly well executed, it's just a bit of fun content to feed the digital channels and contributors. (There will be a few callbacks to it during broadcasts when the season gets going and so on.) It's not a Heisman campaign from the days of old. It's simply nice that the NU program is giving BMac some hype (for fans, recruits and press)--and there's no reason for anyone to take this too seriously.

What is "The Dime"? I may be hopelessly out of touch, but is this some kind of award? Is it some slang that I'm not familiar with?

I'm a marketer and I'm the first to admit a strong majority of marketing is a waste-of-money fluff that doesn't move the needle.

But it's hypercritical to read anything more into this than an attempt to creatively build awareness for the season and NU's best player..

Its a unit of currency that is worth approximately 10 American pennies or 1/10th of a dollar. It was first authorized by the Coinage Act of 1792 and is the thinnest of all U.S. coins currently minted. In 1965, the silver content in the dime was removed. Funny story, but in 1783..... oh yeah, its also an assist like Fitzp said.

You smart ass.

Very nicely done, however.

America doesn't mint "pennies", they mint "cents" or 1/100th of a dollar, dammit!

LouV, what's on the reverse of the MacIntosh dime?

This is a really good point. If recruits like it, that's enough for me to quit my whining.

I think you guys are taking this too seriously. This is just fun pranking with a video camera. My son and his friends have been making stuff like this since he was in High School (he's 32 now). It looks almost professional because there are so many affordable video editing programs out there and good cameras are also readily available.
All it takes is three creative people with a simple idea and some patience in the editing studio. I bet it took less time than many lab projects NU students have to complete each week.

I still have nightmares about my all afternoon Physics labs.

And all day Thursday Unit Operations in ChE was no piece of cake either.
