Saw his post game comment on ESPN web site. He took the blame for the loss, which I thought was a classy thing to do and an improvement from last year. But Fitz doesn't catch, kick or run the football, the players do and today it sounds like they vastly underperformed.

This is in no way meant to denigrate Fitz, but he's been saying "that's on me" and "we as coaches take responsibility" etc since he's been head coach. This is nothing new.

I don't want to crap on Fitz after a loss. I do have two observances. First the last couple of days his comments to me appeared tentative. I would prefer to have him coy as most of his interviews. I also believe he hoisted the white flag early. Point being when chasing by 14 and we had an early drive 4th and 1 he should have went for it. It would have given the offense a confidence boost. It also would have given the defense a breather.

We got outcoached today and that was easy to see. We had nothing new on offense or defense.

We got pushed around in the trenches and got killed. Either recruit well enough in the trenches to run a conservative run first power scheme that pass protects adequately or innovate. We're doing neither and it's another egg we've laid in a big game.

Unfortunately, the way things were going today, it would just have resulted in a 1st and 10 for Michigan. The peak of today's performance was winning the toss.

I think he is right. The team came out flat and unprepared from the opening kickoff. We vastly underperformed today and while there is plenty of blame to go around, I believe it starts with the coaching staff.

UM was extremely well prepared and exploited some things they saw with our defense. That and the opening kick-off.

I'm kind of sick of Fitz using his suit of armor to cover everyone else associated with the program and letting them off the hook, but as I've stated elsewhere, a weird part of me is glad we lost so decisively...no hiding behind the "so close!" excuse. Inferior coaching by a staff that has not changed in years, and a loss to a head coach in his first year at the school with a first year staff using someone else's chess pieces.

A first year coach who was top 2-3 in the NFL, but point taken. The rest of the BIG should be very afraid based on what JH has done this year. Wait until he gets top recruits.

The second highest paid head coach with some of the highest paid Assistants in the game. Oh well, money well spent, they could have put it towards doing something about Detroit.

Well, I believe Michigan's recruiting didn't suffer all that much under Hoke (always has ranked ahead of ours). They still got pretty much who they wanted. It just took a good game coach to get them going. That and getting a veteran qb from another team. And that "inferior coaching" beat three teams with only four losses between them this year! Let's see how the year turns out before we start the negativity.

I stand by my original comment. It's funny because Fitz always gets praise for "doing more with less" and that comment is usually referring to his players, but I think our offensive ceiling will always be low except when we land players like Jackson or Jones who would be exceptional even if I were coaching them.

The players were not aggressive at all playing very tentatively. Players play flat and IMO were intimidated by the crowd. This is why just about everybody picked Mich to win along with Harbaugh as having more big game coaching experience. Mich wanted this game more than NU and played like it. I hope the rest of the season is not like that last ones where the team goes on big losing streaks. Next week will tell everybody what type of team NU has. Mail it in or play hard.

I think putting Harbaugh in the status of a typical first-year coach given his experience and the staff he has assembled is off base.

As just said, it was the Michigan coaches who were prepared. NU, not so much.

I just love guys who are glad when their team gets hammered because they'd rather be right than win.

I'd rather win than lose, but if it has to be another bumbling loss to Michigan I'd rather have nothing for the coach to hide behind, i.e. a close game.

This - same old, same old.
