Fitz's Agent tells Teddy that he won't interview or be candidate for NFL jobs

ESPN reporting the same (possibly based on Teddy's piece). No surprise, to Fitz's credit.

Yeah. Given NFL teams were still asking even after the postgame comments, he sent his agent out to make it explicit. Credit to him for doing so though I was satisfied with just the postgame comments.

Fitz was definitive enough during his postgame comments at the Holiday Bowl, but that slams the door completely shut if his agent is saying that on the record.
If Fitz has an absolute policy that none of his recruits can visit or talk to other schools after they give him a verbal commitment, then it only stands to reason that Fitz can't talk to the NFL or other schools.

Nope. Fitz likened it to being engaged. Once you’re married, all bets are off.

He played it just right. Was in the news quite a bit the last couple of weeks. Hopefully recruits will hear about the guy who’s got no interest in the Packers and other NFL teams so he can stay at NU.

Fitz has to have an agent even if he plans to remain at NU forever. It doesn't make sense to negotiate on your own behalf because negotiations at this price level can be contentious even if the overall situation is harmonious as it is between Phillips/Schapiro and Fitz.

There's also lots of other details in being HC like assistant pool pay as well as all the other perks that have to be negotiated (car/plane travel, etc.).

With all of the connections between Fitz, Murphy, Harlan, and the Packers, does anyone else wonder if the whole story was an inside job? And if so, what would the benefit to Fitz be?

1) No.

2) Positive press for recruiting purposes. But no.

At this point, there's no reason for any of that. Fitz is basically a "forever" coach here; he'll be the HC as long as he wants with a top salary, and the assistant pay pool is as big as it needs to be to retain everybody.

There's no benefit for anybody in creating this story. The facility is already built, and a major stadium renovation is going to be on the way soon (I think it'll be announced before 2020 season).

There is literally nothing that Fitz can get via a leverage play because the AD (and donors) will give him anything he asks for...

What?????

As long as Fitz keeps winning Coach of the Year accolades and wins B1G championships, there will be interest in him from the NFL. Get used to it, fellas.
