Five takeaways from Wednesday's practice

Lou is right in that they probably shouldn't be a thing, there is maybe a better way to coalesce. However I'd say this is not divisive for the team. The players who remain are clearly in it for this group with this message.

Nicely done, Lou. The ‘51’ is weird.

The lack of transfers says great things about what NU offers to the unique athletes who are drawn to it. It’s a rare case where athletes are committing to the school, not just the football program or the coaching staff.

The JackFitz thing is weird.

Weird because he's helping on the field?

I feel bad for the kid. He could've chosen not enroll at NU but it seems it would've been extremely hard to find an academic replacement in such short notice. He obviously grew up with football and it is probably integral in his life. I appreciate him finding an outlet during this trying time for him. He probably also knows some of the team quite well and they are providing some form of comfort.

I just don’t understand why being a coach is somehow better than being a player. Being an 18-year-old coach seems incredibly isolating. It calls out the idea that he was different from the start, and is even more different now. (Him being a coach made it much more likely to get questions in the media availability.)

I get Lou’s read that it’s perhaps a chance to maximize eligibility somewhere else under his dad; it just seems so far off and unlikely that it would be more comforting to have the pads on.

Obviously, a minor footnote to this whole mess.

Who cares about the media piling on with the TShirts? We actually think the coverage is somehow worse. Completely disagree on Gragg handled this well, but of course not surprised as he has done everything wrong. They wore them because they think there wasn’t due process. Who exactly besides the remaining Coaches actually care about these players? No one! The players and remaking Coaches have been painted with a broad brush as either nasty hazers or enablers. I don’t blame them with their form of protest at all.

Because he was a walk-on at the deepest position on the team and his chances of being the field <0? Do you think he would have gone to NU if his Dad wasn't the head coach? Kid had the grades and resume to go to any top university in the county and could have actually played at say an Ivy.

Jack Fitz's situation has been discussed a number of times, and the obvious answer is he's basically delaying using his eligibility until the dust settles on his Dad's situation. He seems to have a great attitude given the tough circumstances. I think it's a smart move.
