At the two minute mark. Turns it over, Misses a switch, then 2 Cats are alone under the basket to rebound a blown layup but he taps it back out to Maryland player.
Not his best night.
Not his best night.
Not his best night.
He is still recovering from a staph infection. I see more minutes going forward and I would hope Lindsey could pick up some time when Demps is on the bench. We are really short right now with Law out, Olah and Ash. Our depth will improve when Olah and Ash get to full strength. We played a terrible first half, lots of turnovers and extremely poor shooting. We looked very tentative. Once again CC must have sparked the team at halftime and while our 3 point shooting remained poor, we played with confidence and looked like we belonged on the court in the second half.
I thought JVZ and Pardon competed well against Maryland's huge front line. Falzon, Demps and Mac were aggressive in taking the ball to the hole and making good things happen. There were a few opportunities for us to make a run but each time Maryland responded with a three. Our three point shooting never showed up. If it does, we should be able to play them close on January 19.
There was a great series of four blocks back and forth which ended with a sweet basket by Mac that looked like he was trying to set up JVZ for a dunk. If Olah is back, I would like to see Pardon or JVZ out there with Olah for a few minutes. The crowd really got into it at that point.
The big problem we have is that Demps and Mac need a blow during each half and CC does not have an adequate answer for that yet. Ash came off the bench at the very end, but it is not clear what his role will be during the remainder of the year. We could use 8-10 quality minutes from him each game. Hopefully he will continue to develop.
Don't forget the blocks they had. Tre going too far in etc. They had a bunch of them in the first half as well.1) Agree about the turnovers. Eight in the first half killed the Cats.
EDIT 2) If you didn't watch the game, the other sign of how outclassed NU was: In many possessions in the first ten minutes, it would take them 20+ seconds to get any offense in gear/below the top of the key. Maryland is long and they know how to play defense.
3) Another nice game by Pardon. I looooooooove his defense. For a kid in his third game, he doesn't back down. He knows when he needs to help. He knows when he needs to front his man, and he kept his cool. He was getting pushed, pulled and tugged all over the place, and never committed a stupid foul. He really held his own.
4) I love the fight you saw in this group early in the second half.
5) Lumpkin's 1-6 shooting emphasizes this was an incomplete team against a complete team. The Cats would have had to play a perfect game, but turnovers, Demps, poor three-point shooting and a few "missing pieces" were working just a tad against them.
