Four months until basketball starts!

I didn't have "NU becomes a basketball school first" on my 2023 bingo card but here we are. Chris Collins don't let me down...
A year ago if you said one coach would be fired and the other would win B1G COY… this might not be the scenario we would’ve envisioned.

I’ve always been much more of a basketball guy, so if Collins can keep the momentum going I’m not that upset if the football program is a tire fire for a while.

Need to get some commitments from the 24 and 25 classes to keep going. Close a few times, but the players blew up and went to other teams.

I get the feeling Collins also is going to be fighting the residue of this scandal for awhile. NU is going to need to bring in a new AD with a pristine, well-known reputation to help overcome the initial stink of this trainwreck.
There is no doubt the current total fiasco will make recruiting much, much harder for CCC. Hi snarrow recruiting field of BIG caliber players with academics has never been easy given Admissions restrictions, but it will be worse now. It is extremely likely there will be a significant downtick in regular student applications. Maybe Admissions will have to lighten up just to keep the entering student numbers from a big decline.

I can't imagine a football scandal will make much of an impact on general student applications for a Uni like Northwestern. I suppose some parents might talk themselves, and therefore their kids, out of it, but it seems unlikely in any meaningful numbers.

In basketball need 2 to 3 solid recruits and a grad transfer or two. Much different challenge than filling a 16 to 20 member football class.

Hope Collins doesn't decide to tell off Gagg and jump to another program.

I doubt most parents of kids applying to NU know anything about round all or oval ball much less the hazing scandal.

I can guarantee that

Maybe not entirely attributable to the scandal but when football is worse, applications go down and vice versa. It’s really good to have good football (and basketball).

With the dark ages upon us in football, I wonder if interest in hoops takes a notch upwards. Simply due to disheartened football fans wanting something positive to look forward to with respect to sports. If I’m Collins I’m doing a sweep on everything going on with the players and in the locker rooms just to be 1000% certain there is nothing even remotely scandalous happening (which I would tend to doubt as hoops is just a different culture to football). Also if you’re CCC you have to like your bargaining position now. Shipwreck of a football program, AD who should have been fired, his tweet last year to the public on CCC wasn’t a fluke this dude is just dumb and tactless but I digress. CCC has a similar image to what Fitz had (family guy, players love him, class act in front of a camera) now if he holds true to that you’ve got to think he is at his all time peak in terms of weight in the sports department.

I think you can be pretty certain that Miller Kopp is ready to verify any claims of mistreatment that anyone care to bring forward.

All kidding aside, are the coaches allowed to yell at players or disparage their performance in any way?
I've lost track of what can get you fired for cause and Coach Collin has been known to vocalize negative things toward his players.

Most coaches get after the players. It's a little better for the players now with all the video tape.

Listened to the podcast with CCC, seems like he is leaning on Boo and Brooks. They are looking forward to home court this time around.

I recently was surprised to learn that my Division II alma mater will have a Boo connection this season. One of his younger sisters, Alexis, will be joining our women's basketball team as a first-year.
