Once again, I have a few recruiting nuggets from working the phones last night. I already posted the story based on my interview with Quayvon Skanes, but here are a few other notes going into what could be an interesting weekend in recruiting for Northwestern.

- Today is the first NU football camp this summer. It is, as usual, closed to both the public and media. We’ll see if any offers come out of it.

- On Saturday, tackle Gunnar Vogel and defensive tackle Alex Miller will be in Evanston for overnight visits

- The race for that last offensive tackle spot will be among Vogel, Sam Heckel (who visited last weekend), and Ryan McCollum (who plans to visit in late June). The dark horse appears to be Sterling Strother, the Calif. OL who may visit this month if the scholarship is still available but doesn’t yet have an offer. Philip hasn’t been able to reach Heckel, but he seems to be waiting to hear from Wisconsin about an offer before making a commitment. And I think that McCollum is focused more on the schools where he is camping over the next week than he is on NU. That leaves Vogel as my favorite. I don’t know if a commitment is imminent, though. Heckel is waiting and McCollum won’t be here for at least a couple more weeks. Vogel is planning to camp at several other schools later this month, too. Unless Vogel falls in love and decides to pull the trigger sooner than intended -- a possibility, as I think NU is a good fit for him -- I think that last slot may be on the board for longer than we think.

- We don’t know too much yet about Miller. He DM’d me on Wednesday that he was visiting this weekend, but we haven’t connected since. His 13 offers include Power Five schools NU, Texas Tech and NU. He comes from Houston (Texas) Stratford, the same school that produced Andrew Luck. I’ll be interested to hear what he has to say after his visit and what his timetable is for a decision.

- Guard commit Cameron Kolwich visited NU yesterday. He had this visit planned for Tuesday initially, but he had to postpone it. He said “it went great…it was a lot of fun.” He visited with his mother.

- I haven’t had any luck reaching Mykal Tolliver, Tymir Oliver and Adam Korutz.
