Funny thing about tiered bowl selection

I understand the reasoning behind the tiered bowl matchup system outside of NY6, but.... doesn't it in effect look a little odd:
Look at where and who you played last year
When might you might be eligible for Bowl X over the next few years
and finally, by the way, how did you actually do THIS year?

Just a little bit of strained "logic" when you take a step back

Like everything, every rule to 'simplify' has unintended consequences.

Last year, the conference championship mattered because that fit the decision. In the days of the BCS, there were rules always added.

They should just admit - "yup, we're making it up."
