playing scared, giving the ball away. If they pressure us on the ball and on the perimeter, we're content to run nothing. "Playing not to lose" is right.

I didn't have a problem with the D in the second half. Nowhere near as good as in the first half, but man, that offense...

It looked like mid-2000s offenses, draining the shot clock and waiting for the desperation 3. I thought we put that brand of basketball behind us.

In our defense it was legal to mug our shooters in the second half.

It wasn't the refereeing or fear. It was depth. Law and Skelly both were gasping and holding their hips at breaks. Our not being able to survive with Mac out more than three possessions was a huge warning sign that the game would go down this way. Injuries and recruiting misses at guard have made us a really thin team. Pardon needs to be at full strength for us to have a chance at the NCAAs this season.

I'm not sure how we survived all those possessions WITH Mac. He was completely undressed in the second half. I frankly thought Brown was more aggressive and less intimidated when he had the ball in his hands.

This game had an NCAA tournament game feel to it -- neutral court and pressure down the stretch. Hopefully it'll be a good learning experience for the team as they finally put away a good opponent at the end of the game.

Agreed. Brown was much more comfortable bringing the ball up and getting the ball into the half-court. After that, I'm happier with McIntosh with the ball. But it was a very rough night for Bryant.

I don't doubt the intensity of the defensive effort of the first half took its toll, but we had more energy to play defense in the second than we showed on offense in the second.

Dayton is projected by bracketologist on cbssports as a #8 seed. So this is a huge non-conference win. Loss to Butler is not looking bad because as Butler took it to Indiana tonight and own a victory over Arizona. ND was even with Purdue until 1:25 left. ND is still a solid tourney team. Yes, NU has room for improvement but looking good so far.

As for Dayton fans, similar to the lack class shown to Cubs fans in the WS. Archie Miller's wife has just made herself a story which is not want Archie wants I am sure. As for Dayton, they should be concerned about winning the A-10 which will not be easy. NU should have won that game by 15-25.

Mac struggled today and has struggled the whole season. But who else in the second half was getting open or moving sharply off the ball? Brown is a fine player who was important to today's victory, but the issues are deeper than point guard. Law and Lindsey have to create some points, and we have to make teams pay for leaving the screener on every pick and roll.
