Gragg interview with INU

Congrats to the students for a great interview.

It’s a shame comments are closed on the Daily Herald article thread, because ggarG says that O’Donnell got his reporting wrong.

He's pretty weaselly with his words though. He says his contract isn't 2.5 years, but declines to say how long it is. So it could be 2.6 or 2.4 years and O'Donnell would technically be wrong. He says he wasn't contacted by the search firm for WA's AD position, but he could have talked to an intermediary, or an administrator, or had his agent talk to someone at the school. I wouldn't take what Gragg says at face value at all.

INU: Speaking broadly about the baseball team, the turnover that’s happened and not a lot of success in the last few years. What would you say your relationship has been like with the members of that organization?

Gragg:
That’s a great question. Let me ask you. What do you think? What are they saying?

I'm surprised Bradley Locker is allowed to interview anybody after he published that rancid "story" alleging Pat Fitzgerald was a racist because a former player was given a bad haircut on Cinco de Mayo.

I tried to find a copy of that libelous July article but it seems to have been removed from the internet. Wanted to confirm exactly what was written. (if anybody has a copy, please post).

Interestingly, when I searched Wildcat Report for "Bradley Locker" I could only find two comments on the free board. And thats really strange - shows how much whitewashing / deleting is going on here - not to mention how it dawned on people that they can't just publish trash without potentially being sued. Of course the one surviving comment is by msheton33 (moderator) and he says he trusts Bradley Locker...

Locker and Gold need to take a course about asking questions. In response to the question whether the Ryan’s were consulted before the decisions of the summer were made Gragg said he consults with a member of the Ryan family every 7-10 days and is in close contact with them.
They then should have asked, along with follow up:

Was anyone from the Ryan family consulted before the decision to fire Pat Fitzgerald was made?

Yeah, some aspects of the questioning were definitely lacking. They're kids, they're learning. But I give credit where it's due--they had the initiative and resourcefulness to score a lengthy interview w/a guy who up to this point has been the Artless Dodger.

I like Gragg even less after reading this. He's full of "I can't answer that" or "I won't answer that." And to respond to a question about the baseball team with, "Let me ask you, what are they saying"? is downright pathetic.

The other side of the coin is that you probably have a fixed amount of time to ask questions. So asking questions that you are pretty sure won't be answered takes time away from asking questions that probably will be answered.

In this case, there is no chance he reveals what, if anything, members of the Ryan family said prior to Fitzgerald being fired. He probably doesn't confirm or deny a conversation even took place. So what could be learned from asking the question? We already know that members of the board were consulted. It isn't a leap to think the Ryan family was consulted. Unless the Ryan family reveals it, we likely will never know what they said.

The question I propose requires a yes or no answer and would have enlightened us about an important point.

Time? A lot of the interview was spent about the baseball team and some topics of little import.

We can give the two journalists a pass because of their inexperience. But time constraints? They had plenty of time to cover a host of topics. Knowing whether the Ryan family was consulted about Fitzgerald’s firing and their response to it would be about as important as seeing the original report.

It's not really strange, because I can see all comments including deleted ones and there have been no comments or threads related to Bradley Locker which have been removed. There are plenty on The Rock though.

Good conspiracy theory though.

Also, you wouldn't find the article from Bradley Locker because he didn't write it, it came from The Daily and took me 2 minutes of searching to find it. https://dailynorthwestern.com/2023/...cribe-racist-environment-in-football-program/
