A groundbreaking ceremony was held on campus today for the renovated Soccer/Lacrosse and Field hockey fields, and the new football practice field. Construction will begin in June and much of it will be done by the end of the year, with full completion in spring 2016. There is a nice rendering of the completed fields along with the new Kellogg facility on the project management page.

No additional information was provided on the status of the permits for the rest of the project.

Some people, yes, others, no
I could end up being an "Other". Working on practice fields is sophisticated landscaping compared to building this facility we have been talking about. That said, I felt the Parking garage was an actual required first step toward the eventual final product. So, these fields may be as well. We have joked about the parking garage but they are expensive to build and this one has some sort of office space or something on the main floor and actually looks as nice as any parking structure I have ever seen.

Maybe this will get people to STFU.

what is frustrating is there is still no actual movement with an actual BUILDING which is a massive project in itself and will have to take at least 2 years to complete. its not going to start in the middle of winter 2016, so then your looking at spring 2016 to spring of 2018 before the building is even somewhat functional. probably 2019 till full completion.

so to say i am thrilled with the announcement of a new practice field would be not true.

it is highly possible that from an announcement standpoint (roughly 2011) to completion (hopefully 2019) this thing will take almost a decade to come to fruition.

True, it is frustrating, but then building on landfill requires more than just a permit from the City of Evanston.

"The University plans to file a permit request with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and work with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and other agencies in regard to construction of the building."

Do you think kudos for the benefactors would be in order, or out of place here?

Am I the only one who thinks there will be a few errant passes and kicks that will wind up in the lake?

Apparently there won't be any errant FG attempts into the lake. There are no goal posts in sketches of the new field.

They didn't even break ground, either. They just brought in a big pot full of dirt and dug a shovel full out of it! ANOTHER FAKE BY THE LAKE!!!

(just kidding)
