I was talking to a media friend the other day who covers another Big Ten team. He's not a Rivals guy, but he's someone who knows recruiting very well. He didn't want me to disclose which team, but suffice it to say it's a Big Ten power.
Anyway, this guy has a personal relationship with the head coach there. The coach told him that he REALLY liked Vogel and said, flat-out, "We really missed on him." The coach had just recently seen Vogel's tape (in the last month) and said if he had any OL spots left he would have gone after him. (OK, so I guess now you know it's not Harbaugh.)
Anyway, here's Vogel's tape to refresh your memory. He's big, strong and physical and plays with a nasty streak. The thing that stands out to me is his very strong and heavy hands. He's a road grader-type of blocker and, frankly, NU needs to get more physical up front. He also may also have the unofficial record for most pancakes in a highlight tape by an NU O lineman -- which is why they're in his highlight tape, I guess.
