I have been thinking about this guy. It is easy to say, 'yeah but the line sucks'.

Maybe. I seem to recall a number of NU QB's that operated under far worse disadvantages, yet posted comparable numbers. I mean, even Mike Kerrigan had a reasonably similar year in an era where NU was putrid. I was afraid for his life. Mike Greenfield is another.

It doesn't help that he is a statue. Dude has negative rushing yards for his career.

Is it just hype, bad coaching, what?

The thing you hear said about him is, "He can make all the throws". Honestly, though, I've yet to see him make a throw that left me thinking, wow, this guy is special. Or really, even a throw that most any decent college QB couldn't make.

He is the proto typical NFL QB. In the NFL, the drop back passer tends to work better. But with weak OL play, the mobile QB will do better. But take a look at all the mobile QBs from college that bombed in the NFL.

They continue to look at him from the pro perspective. And from that, he looks like Andrew Luck but he does not have the OL Luck had. Hopefully the OL still has issues when we play them.
