Has an interim coach ever won Big 10 Coach of the Year?

If he wins out he definitely deserves it. We go 1-1, maybe he still gets some votes. Otherwise it will probably just go to Day. Obviously Harbaugh out of the running. Franklin out after today. Ferentz could somehow end up 10-2 but with that abomination of an offense he shouldn’t get it. Everyone else has done mediocre. Maybe if Rutgers won out Schiano should get some votes.

I believe he has already won the award. Who else? Harbaugh? Day? Schiano? Ferentz? There is nobody who deserves it more.

Braun has done an incredible incredible job and I think he’s very much deserving of the award, especially if we get 1 more win. But let’s not say he’s locked it up when we could have a 12-0 conference champion ranked #1 in the country heading into the playoff. Hard to argue with that.

Yep. If he has his guys playing like today and they win out and go 7-5, I think he gets it over 12-0 OSU. Argument being 1) huge turnaround from 1-11 2) happening in his first year as a HC anywhere 3) NU was a Ben Bryant injury away from being the West champ.

(disclaimer: go 1-0 next week please)

Is it weird to feel pretty good about finishing the season 2-0? Our final games aren’t any degree of difficulty harder than today, and we are playing the best football of the season on both sides of the ball.

Illinois accidentally found a qb and Purdue torched Minnesota - your feelings were justified before those two results

He wins out it is a no brainer! NU was supposed to stink with Fitz this season, but an interim comes in and gets a bowl invite??? The real question is how soon they offer him the HC job on a permanent basis. Only way I can't see that happening is if we lose the last two games, or they have someone else lined up.

He apparently won’t be interim for long, so I guess the question will change to “Has anyone who *started* the season as an interim coach ever won Coach of the Year?”

Easy to see him not getting it when it is expected for them to be 11-0 going into the game against MICH. In those cases they generally chose someone that does something unexpected and that basically leaves Braun and Ferentz as most likely choices

So if Braun wins both games, his case is even stronger for COTY. Get it done, coach!
