HC opening at USC, let the speculation begin....

With Sark out, there is an opening for HC at USC. Pat Haden will try to get it right this time. Look who almost immediately is mentioned....

Some names being floated: Kyle Whittingham (Utah), Rich Rodriguez (Arizona), Gary Patterson (TCU), Pat Fitzgerald (Northwestern) #USC

I think Patterson will never leave.

When does Chip Kelly's name pop up? And, from the not-yet-fired-but-will-be division, Mark Richt?

Richt might do TV for a while, though.

Last two coaches have been fired mid-season. At some point, the glamor of USC is going to wear off and they are not going to get their first pick. RichRod and Whittingham would both be much stronger contenders than Fitz. I would put Fitz and Patterson at about the same level of possibility.

USC is still a huge coaching job and Sarkasian didn't get fired mid season for too many losses. He got fired because he can't handle his personal life and it was effecting his job. I think USC is going to go to the fail NFL coach mill. Chip Kelly would be a strong candidate if he's available. Not sure they will want to go spread. Could it be possible that they hire Harbaugh? No not Jim... Jon Harbaugh. Baltimore is 1-4 and right now. Jason Garrett is probably on the hot seat. Sean Peyton may have a mutual parting of ways with New Orleans.

Oh, I had Chip Kelly penciled in at Illino.....oh man, I tried, I tried but can't say that with a straight face.

I think Fitz would be perfect there and immediately challenge for a national title. Haden will allow him to bring in A league assistants. I can imagine possibly hankwitz goin with but he could find many better OC than mccall me maybe, if fitz bolted.

Me thinks he stays at nu but if he left, who would nu get? NIU guy?

Not my take. Fitz would not be a good fit in the USC culture which is quite shallow in many areas.

Usc needs a person with integrity. From Carroll to sark, all they hired has been golden boys who have embarrassed their institution. I think if Fitz gets to 8 wins then he will b very marketable. If he wins the division then he will b able to write his own contract

The only thing USC cares about is winning football. Integrity be dammed. LA would eat Fitz up.

Fitz in LA will be fine. He may open up more and i think he is a very likeable person. I think he would take it.
Likeable does not matter except when smoozing with the big contributors. Winning is the only thing that matters. If a President of USC does not embrace this, he or she will be fired. I have lived in that city and it is off the charts.

I don't think that USC will be interested in Fitz and vice-versa. Fitz wouldn't be comfortable with the glitz associated with the job and SC would view Fitz as having neither a big-enough name recognition nor having a good enough relationship with the high school programs here. For the most part, I agree with Shakes in that SC will likely look to the pros for their next coach. However, I also think that if Sark had been unbeaten instead of having already lost 2 conference games, he would probably still be their coach. SC is like the Raiders....just win baby. Sark was embarrassing AND he wasn't winning games he was supposed to win - a fatal combination.

Does USC need a person with integrity? Absolutely. Would one fit with the inherent culture there? Doubtful. Granted, Pat Haden seems to be trying to uphold some standards there, but he's probably not going last for more than a season or two unless the program turns around quickly. The USC alumni would have little patience for Fitz.

The USC message boards are all for a NFL guy to take over. They want Chip Kelly if he is fired or John Harbaugh if his 1-4 start to the Ravens season doesn't turn around and he gets terminated.

they didn't get the 1rst or 2nd choice last time. heck mike riley turned them down last time

U$C is like a pro job in many ways, the type of fan base, the glitz of LA, etc. I love Fitz but i wouldn't hire him if I was USC - he doesn't fit and honestly look at Fitz' record over all...we think he does well but there have been a few years we have fallen flat on our face when we should of been at least a bowl team (like the last 2 years). He does that at USC and they run him out. Look for Jeff Fischer, John Harbaugh, Chip Kelly or Brian Kelly to be their top choices. do not laugh at Brian Kelly...he has wanted out at ND for quite some time as he has looked at Pro and other top jobs (like Texas and Florida), he does not see himself from a long term standpoint

Do you think Harbaugh's kicking himself for not sticking it out one more year in San Fran? L.A. sure sounds more appealing than Ann Arbor.
Really? To some maybe, but Harbaugh doesn't seem too disappointed at the this point.

Chris Childers on the College Sports Network is all in for Fitzgerald at U$C....says they need discipline and Pat would bring it. I don't see it happening.

Many on this board would argue with that, there have been plenty of times people have complained about the lack of discipline in the program, going against the coaches direction....Union stuff anyone??
