Though I would happily take ANY of these three, given the choices, I felt like the first one was the one I wanted the most, because it meant more sustained satisfaction. If the team ekes into the tourney and wins two games (or even three if one is in Dayton), that would be an amazing week, for sure, but it would still only be one week.
But what is the side dish that comes with choice, assuming you can still only have one:
Option 1 - A nice ranking, a good seed in the NCAAs, a great season lasting several weeks, likely another victory over Purdue and revenge for last night's loss. Also: disappointing finish in the Big Ten Tourney, and a disappointing loss in the NCAAs the first weekend.
Option 2 - An amazing week, beating some great teams, KNOWING we'll be in the NCAAs despite what could have been a down year, watching Boo be king of the world for a few days. Also: the team might be good, might not, and there might not be many good wins left on the regular-season schedule. Seed in NCAAs could reflect flukiness of one weekend, and NU will lose in first weekend.
Option 3 - The second-round victory will be the biggest win in program history, and Boo will presumably be the toast of the NCAAs. That time period will be about as fun as it can be to be an NU fan. Also: hard to know how good the regular season was. It was good enough to get NU dancing, so presumably there are still a few more good wins on the schedule, but NU might coast in based on the Big Ten's reputation and a lot of wins against the lower half of the conference. Still, if they got in without winning the BTT, that must've meant a pretty good year. I can see why this option is appealing.
