…the ball rolling on recruiting. An up and coming coordinator or something. The season is already going to be bad. The fans need something to be encouraged by. Poor recruiting during a season like this could set the program back several years (if the prez/AD hasn’t done it already).

The only guys you could hire now are the ones that are not coaching this fall. Guys like Paul Chryst. I am not sure you would want limit yourself like that and also keep in mind they could not start recruiting right now as NU has a full coaching staff. A new hire could not come on board and start recruiting for next season without violating the NCAA Cap regarding size of the coaching staff. They should absolutely be sending feelers out right now but hiring someone now does not make sense.

We are just going to have to take the hit in recruiting and try to make a hire as soon as the season is done. The good thing is that new coach could take as many as needed through the portal to backfill roster holes, and if hired before early signing date, a coach could flip some of his own Class of 2024 verbal recruits to NU.

Agree. The 2023 and 2024 recruiting classes are going to be decimated which means the program will continue to struggle, particularly when those classes turn into upperclassmen. The portal will help a bit but NU is handcuffed by its academic requirements so no-one should expect a one year, Colorado type remake of the roster. This is probably a five year rebuild at best which is why I would ask for a 6-7 year contract if I were offered the NU head coaching job.
