Was just perusing some comments here and I realize there is a segment of the fan base who thinks Hunter Johnson is obviously better than Aidan or at least could not be worse...and thus, why aren't we playing him?

Conspiracy Theory #1: Hunter has already notified the coaches and the team that he's not coming back next season. Whether due to family health concerns or just not feeling he's posted the landing he wanted as the clear QB1 - doesn't really matter the reason...would explain to those in disbelief why the coaches have put all their eggs in Aidan's basket and won't even let HJ step on the field. This would go a long way towards explaining why he got zero playing time vs. Purdue and why several of us noticed Hunter was mostly recessed on the sidelines and had almost no interaction with other players.

Conspiracy Theory #2: HJ is QB2 in title only at the moment, frankly because we don't have anyone else credible to list from the depth chart. It is entirely possible that his mental/emotional health is in peril due to family issues, which would be true for many people in the same position, and that he's not in a place right now to be the human punching bag for our current condition. For those who don't spend their days on a college campus, I can tell you that there is more awareness and concern than ever about mental health issues related to college students - *especially* at Northwestern where the suicide rate has stood out as alarmingly high over the past few years. It would also be on-brand for Fitz & Co. to keep him off the field for this (not saying this in a bad way).

Hunter was interviewed, I believe, prior to the Indiana game and he said, in his own words, that he wants to play. Your scenario #2 is speculating that he's in too fragile a state right now to play. But he says he wants to play. Maybe playing is precisely what he needs, a welcome distraction from his everyday troubles?

This is all really weird and unnecessary.

Theory 3: Fitz loves a good Hollywood story, and next year’s national championship (with offensive coordinator Dan Persa) will be that much sweeter if HJ can’t even see the field for the final month.
