I'm about to be crucified on another thread for suggesting a current player might not see much PT again at NU. Based on the current roster, knowing the roster will average 200 minutes per game for the season, anyone want to stake their early guess? I'll go first - comparing to 2015-16 averages too.

Mac 30 - lower
Lindsey 20 - slightly higher
Law 25 - out in 2015, Lumps average
Falzon 25 - same
Pardon 20 - more

Lump 20 - down a bit
Tap 5 - about half
RI 15 - less than frosh Falzon 2015
Benson 15 - same as frosh Pardon
Brown 13 - primary backup G
Skelly 10 - down a little
Ash 2 - about half from a low number already

You forgot Moore and Barry.

Pointless. You've listed three guys who have not played college basketball yet, and you have ignored the likelihood that we have one scholarship to give (at least, though it's unknown exactly how this spot has opened up).

Reading comprehension. Geez, NU grads, really? As constructed, all the schollies are accounted and we will have freshmen that will probably play - just as Falzon, Ash and Pardon played this year. So no Moore or Barry here. No mystery extra 2016 player. 13 schollies and 12 are active and one is Vassar.

Interesting breakdown. I wouldn't go below 35 on Mac until further notice. None of the guards have shown the ball-handling and passing ability to serve as a consistent lead guard. I would also expect Law to approach 30. Collins has called Vic the best athlete on the team, and I would expect Vic to get the time to prove that. Falzon at 25 seems right as well.

The 2 and 5 positions are all up in the air. On center, your guess of 20 minutes for Pardon seems about right. He averaged 5.8 fouls per 40 minutes last year, but even if that figure decreases his sophomore year, foul trouble may keep him out of a lot of games. Benson figures to get 10 minutes. But my guess is Lumpkin, Skelly and Taphorn will all get an audition at center, and for more than emergency duty. It might be too late in his career for Tap to improve significantly on defense, but he was as good a defensive rebounder as Sanjay and Gavin, and his 3-point shooting would make him a great stretch-5.

Finally, I think Vic will soak up some minutes at shooting guard unless Scottie shows some consistency.

The key to this upcoming season -- at least in my opinion six months before the season -- is Isiah Brown. If he can actually play 10-15 minutes, offer some scoring, and shift Mac to the other guard position, we could have two creators in the lineup who set up P-n-Rs with Pardon and ease pressure on guys like Law and Falzon. Aaron in particular was flashing the beginnings of a midrange and short dribble-and-shoot game last year.

So my breakdown would be:

Mac 35
Lindsey 15
Law 30
Falzon 25
Pardon 20

Lumpkin 20
Skelly 15
Taphorn 10
Benson 10
Brown/Ash 10
RI 10

I would probably lean toward Skelly (less of a defensive liability) as a stretch 5, but this leads me to something else I've been thinking about. Could the Cats could add a change up "5 out" package like the Warriors have? Say NU were to land Barry...

1) BMac 2) Barry 3) Law 4) Falzon 5) Skelly

If RI can shoot from outside, I like this one even better:

1) BMac 2) Barry 3) Ivanauskas 4) Law 5) Skelly

If Lindsey can develop consistency, he could be plugged in at the 2 or 3. Imagine if Skelly had Pardon's long wingspan...

(Tangent over)

I didn't click on this thread for a long time because I assumed it would be yet another rant about this message board's most prolific posters. Instead, it's a pretty civil discussion about playing time for next year!

Who'd have guessed it? My faith in humanity has been partially restored...

I think CCC will have to try something creative to account for the 5. One benefit of burning Pardon's shirt is that he may no longer lose the benefit of the doubt as a freshman in terms of fouls. Of course, there is the NU disadvantage to overcome, but I would still expect between experience and deference, Pardon will produce less fouls. I haven't looked closely, but it also seems like much of the beefy, big centers in B!G have departed - so running a small line up might be an option for bursts of time. I think my preference in that case - based on experience and potential would be:
Mac, Brown, Lindsey or Law, Falzon and Skelly.

I know Mac has some deceptive speed and can hit the three. Brown appears to be a speedy scorer so I will assume the three is in his arsenal. I have similar expectations for Lindsey and Law on the three and both can defend and move. If Falzon's D improves, this makes sense - if not, interchange with RI. And Skelly has shown that he will defend, can run and can hit a three - but I can Benson moving into this spot too.

Mac 35

Falzon 25
Pardon 20

Lumpkin 20
Skelly 15
Taphorn 10
Benson 10
Brown/Ash 10
RI 10
You only have 60 minutes between the two guard positions. I would guess you are high on TAP

I would guess another reason for Pardon to commit fewer fouls is he will be stronger and we no longer have Olah and JVZ so his orders will be different.
