Hypothetically: How much would losing Collins hurt NU?

Personally, I think it would set NU back financially and competitively for 10 years.

I think you would lose 1/3 to 1/2 of the already small ticketholder base. You would definitely lose a solid chunk of the Wilson club as there are a lot of non-NU alums in the Wilson club who will not come out for a bad NU program.

I know that I could not justify the expense to watch a non-competitive team. I'd likely down grade significantly.

The roster would likely be decimated. I would expect all 5 incoming recruits, Windham and others to jump ship. This would be a complete rebuild for the next coach.

The bottom line is that NU would go from being a top 1/2 big program to the worst program overnight no matter who the new coach is.

This is why I think NU will pay Collins whatever it takes. The stakes are too big.

As for the Villanova job. It appears that the smoke is real but whether or not anything happens depends on whether they are waiting for a coach in the tourney. We could sit here all week only to have Villanova hire someone else without a word form NU or Collins but if they move on Collins and he's there No. 1 and really interested in going, I would expect it to happen today.
