Assuming we get an invitation to the CBI and Dr. Phillips leaves the final decision to Collins, I believe we'll accept it. One simple reason: CCC stated publicly that it was a "realistic goal" for the team to play in the postseason this March. Here's an excerpt from the SI interview:
"This year we have to take another step forward. We have to play better in the non-conference, there's no question about it. That hurt us last year. I think a realistic goal for us this year is to try to be a postseason team. We were a couple wins shy of that this year, and I think that's a realistic goal for our team."
-- Chris Collins, SI Interview (06/26/2014)
Although I've never met him, I take Collins to be the sort of person that puts a lot of emphasis on setting and achieving concrete goals. Given the opportunity to complete a goal that he laid out for the team before the season, I can't see him passing it up. It adds credibility when he sets a loftier goal next season and perhaps even strengthens his recruiting pitch a bit. Plus, even with injuries, more court time and tournament experience is good for the players and fans alike.
