I f***ing love this team

Both NU and Penn State played with a ton of heart today but just couldn't get past more talented opponents.
I’m not really buying more talented with their injuries. Barnhizer and Berry went 1 for 17. Almost all of Berry’s shots were wide open looks. Just go 4 for 17 and we probably win. Just shoot poorly. We were the better half court team. Great year. Great effort today. Very winnable game.

Technically, Barnhizer and Berry were 2 for 17, but I get your point. I didn't realize how poorly they shot until I checked the box score. Berry was 1 of 6 on 3-point attempts. He also missed a couple of bunnies.

I loved how we came back in the 2nd being down 10 to make it a game. There were so many missed chances towards the end where the ball just wouldn’t drop for us. UCLA has to be one of the best if not the best team we faced all season and we came close to pulling it off. So proud of the team that started the season with the big away win against MSU to fight to the end against UCLA. What a terrific season! Congrats to the players and the coaches. Looking forward to next season.

Go Cats!

There were three guys who scored 51 points.

The other four went 4-22. (Sans Martinelli, 3-21.)

No regrets. No shame. This is the most fun I’ve had watching any team ever.
Mart and BB along with MN create a tremendous base to work around. I expect all three to average double digits next year. If chase and Boo run it back, this team could do some real damage.

I would run Berry off the bench - opposing coach pointed out we had zero guard depth (BB and Mart are Fs). Regardless of Beran, if you can get chase and boo back and starting w BB, Mart and MN - you have Berry off the bench as G and Hunger off the bench as the big. That’s a strong 7 man rotation.

Get Beran or a decent transfer, let the frosh play development garbage minutes and no reason this team can’t do more damage next season.

At least hoops gives us something to look forward to next year.

Edit - forgot about roper - adds another G for small ball or 3Gs and the bigs lineups.

You expect BB, MN, and Martinelli all to average double digit scoring next year?

Both averaged fewer ppg than Berry.
Ok. Maybe pwb could tell us those averages over the last 20 games. Bet it tells a different story. Mart just started getting minutes. BB was late to the rotation. MN wasn’t a starter to start the season.

My eyes tell me all three grew in confidence and abilities as season wound down. BB showed some spectacular D, ability to create his own shot, a handle and some excellent FTs. Someone said they would be impressed if he started hitting threes. Like he reads the board, 3s came out the next game. He starts next year and will be a leading scoring option.

MN - well, if you don’t think he averages double digits and maybe a double double year after that, I would like to wager with you.

As for Mart, to my surprise, he showed a hellavu lot more than I expected. He too can handle the ball well for a big guy. He mives well enough to play that man switch that keyed our D. Next year may not be his coming out - but I think it’s coming and he either starts or is first big off the bench.

Did someone hijack Bob's account? What's with all the optimism? I like it.

You don't need PWB. Barnhizer averaged 9.2, Berry averaged 7.65, and Nicholson averaged 6.85 over the last 20. Martinelli averaged 2.7.

Nicholson averaged 5.5 rebounds per game. He had double digit rebounds three times the entire season - none in the last 20 games. And he had more than seven just once in the last 20 games. This is what I'm talking about in having unrealistic expectations for his development. Great kid, works extremely hard, has developed impressively in the last year, but averaging a double-double in D1 ball is national player of the year talk. 12 guys averaged double digit rebounds a game in all of D1.

I don't want to come off looking like I don't believe in the guy, but we're setting him up for failure with unrealistic expectations.

Dude - I get such a bad wrap. I’m an NU fan, been suffering Chicago sports team fan and athlete. But I’m a southsider to the bone - and that’s how we do it. We call out the crap, bitch and moan, and probably know more than every Chicago sports team owner, GM and manager :). But we are die hard fans and live our chances to enjoy quality teams.

Like everyone else, I saw a roster w a coach and lack of transfer ins and quality recruits and an exodus and thought, they will be lucky to win a NC game.

I was wrong. Big time. Happy to own it. Take a little solace in being on the MN fan bus since last year. And feeling really good about a bunch of guys and some possibilities. Still not all in on CCC nor supportive of a big extension - but ready to admit being wrong and get on his bus too if he brings back more success.

Like I've said, this team could have used a Tap-like player off the bench.

Hopefully, the staff can grab one in the portal.

I would be so much happier for it to turn out that Hunger is that guy next year. But maybe starting rather than off the bench.

Roper was also hitting threes before his injury(s), which I thought was an improvement for him over the prior year
