I PREDICT that the Beavers will play the Cougars for the PAC championship

Well, rather than joining the MWC, they might invite the MWC in their entirety to join the PAC-12, retaining the name and whatever NCAA benefits are still retained by the conference (the PAC-12 is still one of the five "autonomous" conferences recognized by the NCAA, enjoying certain privileges of autonomy not enjoyed by the "group of five" conferences).

They don't even have to invite the entire conference. If 3/4 of the voting members leave, the MWC disband and nobody has to pay any exit fees, and they can leave behind the conference's dead weight.

That's the galaxy-brained move.
Other freeloaders, take notice (except for @NUCat320 and @zeek55 who are constantly on fire). This kind of post is how you add value on the FloridAlum board.

My hat is off to @FeralFelidae , even I didn’t foresee this potentially hilarious outcome. But, the more I think about it, the more I like it.

I would note that rather than trying to change athletic competition rules for 2023-2024 or 2023-2024 payouts to schools, what they're most likely after here is the $40-50 million sitting in the general conference accounts (undistributed) as well as the net assets on the Pac-12 Networks books and the CFP payouts for the next 2 years and NCAA units from the tourneys of past that take several years to pay out...

If they can keep the Pac-12 conference past 2024, those 2 schools basically get all of that leftover stuff for themselves.

It probably adds up to around $100-150 million in total value, possibly a bit more. It might be as high as $200 million that they can keep for themselves. That can easily sustain those 2 for a couple years even if they vote to merge with the MWC or bring on a lot of those schools. They can write it into the bylaws that only those 2 get all those pre-2025 assets.

That's why they don't want the other schools to vote to disband the conference or split up the assets equally 12 ways.

If the other 10 schools vote to disband the conference or split the assets, that means all schools would get to take their NCAAT units with them, the CFP payouts will vanish at the Power 5 equivalent rate, and the assets ($40-50 million cash and Pac-12 Networks net assets) get divided 12 ways after August 1, 2024.
