Sounds like the kid has a longstanding problem with alcohol.

I'll wager a semester, maybe two, of counseling and no playing. And then, if he wants to stay, he'll play next year.

Now, if Illinois needs him in the second semester they can do a little publicity on his commitment and response to treatment and suit him up.

I knew some kids at that age on the south side who did a lot worse, mostly never got caught and are doing just fine today. Paying taxes, contributing to society, etc.
