Illinois

Well, not the outcome I had hoped for. I want to see Illini struggle. I think this is a good get for them. Good luck to Smith as long as he's not playing the Cats.

They really had a great situation for him. He's from down the road and they have no star on their roster.

Recruiting has never been the problem for Illini basketball. Having it add up to wins in the last few years has been the problem. But I believe that the current AD has done his very best to fix that issue by moving quickly on the best coach that was available to them. They just lost so much scoring from last year's squad that I think it will be a long season for them, but if they can hold it together I think 2018-19 can be a return to the top tier of the conference for the Illini

It's being reported that Smith has committed to the illini.

Honestly, I thought he was Illinois bound the whole time. You read from the articles that a big factor is stepping in as a freshman. The kid wants to start immediately. Illinois was the one place where he could do that. He wasn't going to do that at Kentucky, MSU or NU.

And if that doesn't tell you how far we've come and they've dropped, nothing will.

Not really. It's a function of depth chart. We have a 4 year starter and All-Big 10 selection playing PG for us next year. If Smith had been in the class of 2018, perhaps, our chances would have been a lot better. Maybe that will help us with Ayo.

I think I would like to land Ayo. I don't really know anything about him but I'm a Morgan Park Homer and I loved Corbin Bryant when he was here.
I don't know what Ayo's situation is, some times kids need a change of scenery to build new relationships, other times it is great to stay near home. Hope he does what is best for his success.

"The kid wants to start immediately." His quote was “I didn’t want any school to give me anything,’’ Smith said. “He’s going to give me the ball. I can come in and earn a starting spot. I felt right there I could trust him to push me to be a better basketball player.
Guess you aren't as informed as you thought.

However he could be for a rude awakening if Underwood pulls an "Underwood" and leaves after a year or so for his other 'dream job".

Don't be daft. He clearly made comments to the effect that he wanted to go somewhere where he had a chance to make instant impact and start. And, of course he doesn't want a school to give him anything. No self-respecting player would. At Illinois, where they need to replace 82 minutes of production, he has a great chance to earn a starting spot and get a ton of minutes. At NU where we return 4 starters and their backups and he has ZERO chance to earn a starting spot over Bryant McIntosh or Scottie Lindsey (sorry, maybe not zero - I suppose if a grenade went off in the guards meeting room, he'd have a decent chance), and where we are not going to be giving him the ball, it doesn't really fit at all with the comments he is talking about. Had he come to NU, he'd have been a backup with limited minutes his freshman year. No if's and's or but's about it.

Barney, can I ask you a question? Are you purple and oversized and aren't you supposed to love everyone? Do that then. Don't be an ass and pretend you have a valuable point. Nobody likes a sissy-ass dinosaur that can't reason.

Keep dreamin', no pun intended. Your blind hatred is really giving some other posters a run for their money!
Actually I don't hate the U of I and have many friends who have gone there, including my better half. But jerks like you, who hang on other schools message boards, make it pretty easy to hate their so called fans.

Yes, I'm purple, not oversized, and I do love everyone, at least my puppy thinks so. Very perceptive on your part. Sorry, not sissy-assed, but very perceptive on your part. Good use of the NU degree!

There's plenty of NU posters who hang around other message boards too. It's not a big deal. Talking shit to other teams is part of the fun of being a fan, as long as it's kept clean which chitownUofI does from what I've seen. Who care's if he comes over here and engages in convo

Chitown will likely see this as a big plus for the Lovie's.

Huh?

Anyway, Missouri has nowhere to go but up, and they'll be much improved. I remain skeptical Cuonzo Martin can do any better there with great talent than he could at Cal, though.

In the PAC-12 or 14, you currently have the powerhouses in UofA, Oregon and UCLA. USC is a rising power behind excellent coach Andy Enfeld. In the SEC, you have UK and Florida and no on else. Missouri will be in a battle with 'Bama and Texas A&M for the third spot.

Two more transfers out for questionable illini.
