I'm thinking Pardon burns his shirt this year

With our VT transfer, and Olah, I get a bit uncomfortable thinking about Sanjay once again at center or power forward. Not that Sanjay couldn't provide minutes there, but it seems to me that if we have a chance to flirt with the NIT that we will need Pardon, even if that only means 4 minutes a game. Those 4 minutes could spell the difference between a post season bid or sitting at home.

At any rate, a good coaching job would be getting us into the NIT. A fair coaching job would be getting us 'close' to the NIT. Our purple colored fans talking about us somehow going to the NCAA's is interesting but I just don't see it. I see progress and I'm really excited for it, but unless Falzon shoots lights out and the VT transfer plays like Lawrence Funderburke, we simply don't have the strengths needed in this 'tough as nails' conference.

With only 12 scholarship players, I think it is extremely unlikely that ANYONE will redshirt. By all accounts Pardon has a Big 10 body. He will play.

Do you or others think that NU will go into the with only 12 schlorship players. That doesn't make a lot of sense and a 5th year senior is likely the best option. Thoughts.

Any chance that a midyear transfer takes place? They are less common, but with a open schollie, it is easier for a transfer to get right in, start school and eat away at the sit out time.

I don't think CCC is likely to RS anyone this year. Still trying to get enough of his guys in. And if he can continue to recruit as well as he has so far, little advantage.

I think they go with 12. Players are pretty much lined up for schools already. Many schools start class in a couple of weeks.

Pardon will play in Spain and in the preseason because he needs the experience for next year when he will be at the top of the totem pole in the middle. But getting him that experience in conference games will be a secondary goal for Collins. Our head coach is in a definite win now mode, not a rebuilding one. JVZ is two inches taller, plays a foot higher around the rim and has a 4 year experience/maturity advantage. He was brought in to help win now, and he will be given every chance to do just that.

I think this team has the makings of a high quality NIT/ bubble NCAA team.

The reports are that Skelly has moved to the 4 and Pardon is there for depth at the center position. What happens if one of our bigs gets injured and is out for a couple of games. That is the positive of having depth. The college 7'0" is becoming more rare unless you get the UK extra incentive recruiting package. UK stockpiles 2-3 7'0" per year. The 6'8"-6'9" athletic center who can run the floor better is becoming more and more commonplace and the trend.

Agreed. Further, only football-centric fans use the language "burn his shirt" about a basketball player. The oddity is when a basketball player takes a redshirt freshman year--and it's more often for an injury/illness than the purposes of player development ala college football. If healthy, I expect everyone to play.

Not necessarily true. I know of other programs that will redshirt players for developmental reasons. Not too long ago, Cincinnati redshirted a young guard named Sean Kilpatrick to give him another year to develop. He went on to become an All-American his senior year and the second-all time leading scorer at the school (behind only the great Oscar Robertson). It does happen... but I agree, not as much as in football.

This staff expects to continue to improve recruiting so a useful four years is what's expected of scholarship players.

Fair enuf. Certainly i was footballcentric and have alot to learn with BB but the hottest topic last year was how many redshirts we would have last year and i presume even you would have agreed that a few redshirts wouldnt have been unusual. Likewise i think it is a reasonable action if pardon gets redshirted. My opinion is that he wont because we need him to get experience this year since we have our other big men graduating. But if he does burn his shirt i wouldnt expect any more than a handful of minutes avg....although needed if we want to get as much blood out of turnip we can for a nit run. To clarify....the dream of ncaa is still alive for me as well.
