As soon as Fitzmorris entered the game, I ended it. So we won 64-42 in 37:15 of action.
Nobody told him the game was over, however. He was as fired up as any Northwestern player this season.

The "Player +/-" numbers are not the same as I usually calculate - more of a rough estimate. Ty Berry at the bottom of the 9 man rotation for the 2nd game in a row.

When Barnhizer/Martinelli/Mullins/Leach had the floor together, we pummeled Pepperdine 23-7 in less than 9 minutes.
when Nicholson joined those 4 guys, it was 13-3 in 3:44.
with Hunger it was 10-4 in 5:14.
Either way, we dominated them.

Ty Berry only played when Nicholson was at the 5, Martinelli at the 4 and Barnhizer at the 3.
He didn't play with Luke Hunger, Angelo Ciaravino or Justin Mullins at all.

I'm not going to use this game in the season analysis. I think Lehigh vs Pepperdine is a good matchup.

I noticed prior to the Montana St. game that Fitzmorris has a crazy routine where he practices spin moves under the basket. He must be a fun teammate.

Re: your season analysis, I’m curious about your not using this game and the implications of using vs. not using it. I’d throw it out myself just because Pepperdine was missing a bunch of guys.

In the past we'd beat some bad teams and it would enhance the numbers for certain guys, who just couldn't repeat their performances against better players. So I restricted the games to Big Ten games, Power 6 games and (roughly) competitive games.

I didn't really expect to be using the UIC game this year. Or the Montana State game... Or the Eastern Illinois game...

Ultimately those games will mean a lot less than they do now - but for now its a way of measuring performance.

Maybe there's some way to make an adjustment based on the level of competition. Like Pepperdine game is worth 1x and Lehigh game is worth 0 and EIU and Montana State are 2x and Dayton and Big Ten games are 5x. I dunno. Some way to include lesser games but not evenly.

As for Fitzmorris...I noticed a few games ago that he was on the sidelines outside of his warm-ups. Like he was wishing himself into the game (specifically, he didn't play in that game). You can't miss him. He's the tallest guy on the bench and he raises his arms super high on big plays. He seems like he'd be annoying to sit behind in a movie theater but really fun to sit next to. Assuming you have enough space.

Thanks. When I talked to an insider last week, he expressed both hope this year’s team is tourney-worthy along with a ton of uncertainty along the lines of - we don’t know what we have because they haven’t played together.

This weekend’s games will be an acid test of what this year’s team is all about. Montana State and Pepperdine can be chalked up to “figuring out how to play together” but it’s pencils down now.
