I had mentioned preseason that this was the year for Pallas Kunaiyi-Akpanah to finally realize her potential. And boy, has she ever!

Barring injury the all-time single season record for rebounds record for us is likely hers -Nia Coffey is #1, but Pallas is only 39 behind her with 4 games to go, and is currently average 11 boards per game. She is AVERAGING a double-double, and leads the team in blocks and amazingly, in steals as well (the latter by a wide margin!).

And she's just a junior, so she should be phenomenal when we reload next year with another top recruiting class coming in...

Reload? We are 2-11 in the B1G. We better do more than reload. I admit I don’t follow WBB all that close, but have we ever won a NCAA game under the current coach. Seems like we have a few good players every year and are woefully thin with depth. Seems we should expect better than 2-11 even in a rebuilding year with a seasoned coach. Last year was supposed to be the year, yet it wasn’t and we weren’t competitive in many games. If we were coming off a strong season with a dance appearance I could understand the optimistic viewpoint, but this has a long way to go.

The phrase, "and (he/she) is just a junior and should be phenomenal next year" should be forever stricken from this message board. If we've learned anything from the men's team this year, it's that year-to-year improvement is NOT a given.

Agree, improvement is not gained in consistent incremental steps. This is true in football too, unless you are Austin Carr.

In 10 seasons as coach, McKeown has led NU to one NCAA Tournament appearance, losing in the first round in 2015. He has also led NU to four WNIT appearances with a record of 5-4 in those games. Overall at NU, he is 158-156 with a 44-98 conference record.

Last year was not the year due to a fact that a player committed suicide, and the team never recovered from that. This season was essentially toast when that player's roommate, who was one of the team captains, took a leave of absence for the season, and the other team captain broker her foot.

The team is loaded with talent right now, but they are nearly all freshman and sophmores, which is why they are taking their lumps. They will have an excellent team next season.

Hope you're right, Mike. I don't follow the women closely (I've only been to a small handful of games), but a strong team (say, top third of the conference) WOULD motivate me to get out there more often.
