At the 9 minute mark of the first half, we were 2-6 for 3, but down 15-13.

Amazingly, we would go 1-14 from 3 the rest of the way (3-20 for the game) but STILL come back to win by 9!

I know, lolRutgers, but would we have won such a game in previous years?

Those first 10 minutes were maddening. But to your point, this team is definitely full of fighters who will do what it takes even if the shots aren't falling. We're not a team that gets blown out (knock on wood).

Along the lines of that stat, I was surprised to see that Vic Law finished with 23 points last night going 0fer from 3 point range.

NU loses that game by 30 against another opponent. Rutgers simply could not shoot. They missed a ton of layups and were even worse from outside. I will give Rutgers credit for playing hard the entire game, They had a load of offensive rebounds ,again , because they missed so many shots, BMac was pressured the entire game and NU's offense was stymied by that pressue on the point. MSU and Minnesota employed the same tactic so NU better expect the same from future opponents

Rutgers has basketball players that cant shoot. Reminded me of some earlier wildcat teams.

I think the key was when we started to push the pace a bit more. Our halfcourt offense was very stagnant, our energy wasn't great, they were winning all the loose balls (some by lucky bounces, some they wanted more), and they had us in a rut early.

At the end of the first half CC went with some light pressure and then seemed to encourage the guys to push the ball up the court more whenever we had the chance. This was then continued more noticeably in the first 10 minutes or so of the 2nd half as we built a lead. Of course we slowed it down again at the end (why do we always turn around and pull it out and reject 2 on 1 chances after breaking the press??), but thankfully we were able to hold on fairly comfortably.

I thought that adjustment by the team was a good one to try to get some better looks in transition, and inject more energy after a slow start. Not pretty, but 1-0 is all that matters.
