Here is a simple way of looking at our recruiting class - DSRS (DaCat's Star Rating System). Obviously no one knows how these kids will pan out in college but it's a fan's call in life to speculate and argue over this topic. Quite simply:
5 stars = All American
4 stars = All B1G 1st or 2nd team
3 stars = All B1G honorable mention or consistent starter
2 stars = productive role player
1 star = non-player

For example, Venric Mark would be rated a 5 star recruit under the DSRS. Ibraheim Campbell is a 4 star. So far Geoff Mogus is a 3 star. Jimmy Hall would be a 2 star. You get the point.

My very uneducated take on this year's recruiting class:

5 stars - none

4 stars - Fox, Moten, Thomas, Thompson

You're missing 1 1/2 Star - "unproductive role player".

Not naming names but, for example, every running back between Tyrell Sutton and Venric Mark's one season.

Unfortunately as Gary Barnett said to me once.

20 recruits

You have to assume the following

5 guaranteed starters and big time players
5 never see the field
5 have a chance to be solid contributors
5 role players

The star ratings impact what you "should" expect from the recruit or the likelihood they will fit one of those categories. A 5star is expected to be a starter, superstar and future nfl player. A 1 star should be lucky to see the field and be the longest of longshots.

In the end you can never tell about the size of a kid's heart and determination to excel.
