Iowa football

The CFL is even more restrictive for some reason. NCAA players have to have completed their fourth season of eligibility:

“Since 2014, U Sports players become eligible for the CFL Draft three years after completing their first year of eligibility at university. Additionally, NCAA and NAIA players are eligible to be selected after completing their senior season of eligibility.”
Also seem to remember that each team can only carry x amount of players from the U.S.. 10-12???

And yet there are idiots who say, "Just pay the players already!" because they think the administration is sitting on a pile of money from the football team.

The revenue sports pay for non-revenue sports, including scholarships for those sports. Those opportunities will dry up if we blow up the system.

How 'bout not paying coaches millions (even many ADs make 7 figures these days, as do a # of strength coaches)?

Since when does coaching "amateurs" become a means of creating generational wealth?

Often earning more than coaches/managers of professionals.

And why does it only apply to coaches for FB and men's BB?

The women's volleyball coach is coaching like "student-athletes/amateurs".

Student-athletes are compensated with scholarships.

Which is an inflated amount.

That’s just effing dumb. What are you some kind of Communist? Someone has to pay to keep the lights on. Someone pays for the professors’ salaries and pensions. Someone has to pay for the maintenance and construction of the buildings (which are amortized over time). Those someone’s are generally the people who pay tuitions along with the donors (and grants and cash flows from the endowments, and what not, but I’m trying to keep it simple). The tuition is calculated to be the amount needed to be covered by the students who attend, of which some of it is covered by scholarships.

A kid that doesn’t get a scholarship has to pay 72+17 = $89K.

A kid on scholarship doesn’t have to pay anything.

That’s $89K. That’s what the scholarship is worth. For crissakes, are you one of those people who says 2+2 isn’t 4? Let me guess, your politics identify with AOC and Bernie Sanders don’t they?

Actually "communism" would be giving the SAME amount of recompense to all the "workers" (despite bringing in varying amounts of revenue) in order to give the party nomenklatura (coaches/admin) a disproportionate amount of the rewards from said labor.

And tuition/r&b have been grossly inflated over the decades (an "arms race" to see how high tuition can go, supposedly being a reflection on the worthiness of the school; really not much different from what big pharma has done with regard to drug prices).

Also, the P5 schools actually benefit from the cost of athletic schollies.

The typical student (on avg.) doesn't pay full freight, but schools get the FULL tuition $$ for schollies from the athletic dept.

The CFL has a 46 person roster.

Minimum of 21 Nationals, not including any QBs
Minimum of 2 Global players
Maximum of 20 American players, not including QBs
2 QBs
1 Reserve

The QBs are likely Americans.

Thanks. 22-23 are a lot more then I thought. Maybe they should re-name it the North American Football League.

When your audience is 98% Canadian it makes sense to keep it branded as Canadian.

And for my fellow Canucks, Happy Canada Day!

Well, there was a time when they had teams in the USA. Maybe they should've rebranded as the North American Football League then. People in those USA cities were probably confused.
