Iowa St for Brock

Assuming he is good and he gets better as a running back nice that the boatman wasn’t able to keep him afloat. Hope he does well at the state school outside of our conference where I am sure he can still find a decent, even if not what it could have been at Northwestern, academic program if that remains apparently a secondary goal.

Who are their other possibilities? Losing to Stanford, TSISB even Duke maybe ok but losing to Iowa State, not so much.

I don’t think we will reach at RB this year. Probably those two guys or carry it over.

I also don’t think we really “lost” to ISU.

Can't think of a clearer example of a loss.

We aren’t even in the conversation until/unless Ayeni is hired in January. Iowa State has been there from the beginning, including relationships with Campbell, etc.

And, again, if a kid can’t appreciate the difference between NU, ISU, and Minnesota (especially after official visits to all three)... Godspeed.

It’s like picking a free dinner at Applebee’s over Maestro’s....

Look at it this way. Iowa State probably wasn't his first pick, it is most likely a consolation pick. So, let Iowa State sweat it out when the Michigan's of the world come in search of there plan B players in late November and early December when they fall short on there plan A player, Just my opinion. Oh, and I attended Iowa State for one year back in the 80's, and besides a great all you can eat Chinese Food Buffet, there is nothing there that is inspiring.

This could be very much part of it. Perhaps he was wanting a higher profile school. He knew if he verballed to NU, contact and tweets about other schools would be a no go. If he committed to Minny and sniffer around for other offers I bet Fleck would try to recruit over and around him.

Maybe so, but it's still as clear a loss as any.

I don't get why we lose kids to Iowa State. It's weird.

Trust me, the alumni at Iowa State were thinking why would any football player go to Northwestern. Different strokes. My wife's family is from Kansas and in a New York minute they would prefer a rural school - atmosphere and curriculum - to say a Northwestern. All good.

Kansas...New York minute. Would that be Manhattan, Kansas then?

I love wine, but I don't love whine. Skip the sour grapes. We got beat

No sour grapes here, but I don't think we objectively lose for football or academic purposes in any scenario. Could have been he wants to live in the country or he was paid cash. Or girls were hotter and they have one of those escort programs. Or the dude in Iowa State was just a better recruiter or kissed up to him a lot more. It doesn't matter why we lost.

Either way, we lost. Period.

Oh, well, move on to the next one.

Well, that's in a way why they are alumni at Iowa State and not Northwestern (or Stanford). Read that anyway you want.

Ames produces nothing remotely close to the Cindy Crawfords and Meghan Markles that NU regularly churns out . . . whether in beauty, charm, or income potential.

Fair point. Then maybe they were sluttier. I don't know. I'm just making up conceivable reasons he could have picked Iowa State in an attempt to process the unprocessable.

I don’t understand this line of thinking that we should never lose a recruit to ISU or any other P5 school. We rarely go head to head in recruiting with them. ISU offers everyone with a pulse so the Stats of head to head may look very good for NU. Most schools have some appealing factors. Didn’t ISU beat Oklahoma and TCU? Didn’t they win a bowl game like us? Don’t they have a highly regarded young coach?

If we start get routinely beat for top targets by ISU, then I would be more concerned. This is really no different that how fans of consistent top 15 programs would view losing a player to NU. Most of us look through our purple tinted glasses and come up with all kinds of reasons that a kid would commit to NU over one of these so called elite programs. ISU fans glasses are tinted a different color.

Over the years I have been blessed to be friends with a group of Iowa State alums. I'd put these guys up against my NU friends any day. These are guys who had no idea NU existed when they were 18 because life works like that. NU would have been lucky to have them. They even root for NU on Saturdays and go to NU games. I'm glad Brock chose Iowa State because if it works for him like it has for my friends, dude will have a good life.

Hear hear max! I think a lot of “football” schools would wonder why a kid would choose NU over them. For them, all they see is the game day experience (half full stadium or full stadium with half the fans for the other team).

My guess is the kid chose ISU because of Campbell and the rest of the coaching staff. He seems like a good guy and a good coach. I hope the kid has a nice career.

Yes, ISU has a very good young coach in Matt Campbell. Yes, they beat TCU and Oklahoma at Oklahoma. They also took Iowa apart for 2 1/2 qtrs until Iowa got a heartbeat and came back to win it in OT. It is also true that ISU, like the Boat rowers offers every kid 3* and above. I think if ISU has a really good season this year, Matt Campbell will have some bigger name schools calling and that could deep six his days at ISU. He says he is at ISU for the long haul, but when big name schools come calling with there check books, coaches suddenly have a change of heart. LOL

Hopefully it has improved in 30 years

That already happened last year and he re-signed for 6 years with a HUGE buyout. He loves ISU and will be staying for the long haul.
I've lived in Chicago, attended grad school there, and am an ISU grad. There is no better campus in America. Godspeed to you Academic Animals who never leave the city, which is just a glorified suburb of Iowa.
Beat the Hawks NU.

Maybe he just didn't like purple. Colors for MN and ISU are about the same aren't they?
