Is that good or bad? It’s Iowa’s 11th win and they’ll likely get 12 when they close with UNL at home. Assuming we split and get to 12, who owns the tiebreaker? Meanwhile IU drops to 11-8, and even if they beat Michigan in their finale, they lose the tiebreaker to us. What say you, Board analysts? What are our rooting interests the rest of the way?

It’s… less of a difference either way than I’d have thought

Right now it seems to be either win out, if we can only win one, it needs to be Rutgers, or if we only beat PSU then we need both Michigan and Maryland to lose out.

Cats pretty much have to win their last 2 games. If they end up 12-8 and Iowa beats Nebraska we lose the tiebreaker to them.

Michigan has 2 tough games left at Indiana and at Illinois but if they win one of those and end up 12-8 they would also win the tiebreaker against us.

Maryland would just need to win one of their last 2 to end up 12-8 and they also would win the tiebreaker against us.

Illinois will have a tough game at Purdue and they have to win their final 2 to end up at 12-8.

So obviously the best case is for the Cats to end up 13-7 and then they get the double bye. But if they end up 12-8 with the win being against PSU…

Pull for….

Nebraska to beat Iowa
Minnesota to beat Rutgers
Illinois to beat Michigan
Indiana to beat Michigan
Purdue to beat Illinois

If they end up 12-8 with a loss against PSU and win against Rutgers then everything above stands except it wouldn’t matter if Rutgers beat Minny.

Indiana loses and MSU getting thumped by Nebraska! Wow! Cats gonna get the double bye soon!

Nebraska just went on a 17-2 run against Michigan State. Nice line from the announcer: "usually when you have a drought that long, Willie Nelson shows up to give a concert."
I knew that was Shon Morris saying that without even turning the game on. So much for Nebraska's huge lead.

MSU isn't a factor, as it looks like they won't make up the Minnesota game and can therefore do no better than 11-8. The only way we finish behind them is if we lose out, and if we do that we're not getting the double bye anyway.

I've been wondering about this. Any idea why they'll just let that one slide away? MSU could use the extra win so I assume they're fighting to play it.

Just win our games and let the rest work out. I believe we’re guaranteed the double bye if we do win out? Though someone better with the numbers might know more than I do.

The conference (and MSU) wanted to move the Rutgers-Minnesota game up to Wednesday and have the makeup on Friday, but Rutgers refused to move the game. So there's nowhere to put the makeup.

Everybody beats everybody else

This is good for us as it leaves us with one more day of rest than they have before Sunday's finale.

As far as the double bye, it really only matters if we are trying to win BIG Championship. Nice goal but pretty hard to do. While the double bye is a badge of honor and makes it a shorter path, not sure it matters that much as by the time it gets to double bye it is a tougher matchup. Shorter path to championship game but that is about it. Second place in conference obviously worth something but double bye less important

Yes, if we win out we are assured of the double bye because only 4 teams have 7 losses or fewer after IU's loss last night.

Double bye means our Friday opponent will have played the day before. That's a big advantage for us. Also, it's fun to go deeper into the Big Ten Tournament. Have we ever played on the Saturday? Lots of additional national exposure that can only help with recruiting.

Conference absolutely crazy this year

The tourney year was the first time, but that was our 3rd game in 3 days and Wisconsin walloped us.

At first I was worried that a double bye would mean our first game is against a better team, making it more likely we might not win a game in the tournament. However, I think that only becomes important if we don't win another regular season game. And, if we go 0-2 these next two games, we ain't getting a double-bye anyway, so it will work itself out.

The point is.... I'd hate to enter the NCAAs on a 5 game losing streak.

Now that I see it in print, I feel foolish for thinking that "double bye" meant two players had declared their bi-sexuality.

I kind of came to this conclusion as well, but I also like more wins, higher rankings, more respect, etc.

NU *can* win the BTT. It's not likely, but it's more likely this year than any year before now. So let's win two games, get the double-bye, reap the benefits of playing against teams more tired than we are, and maybe just maybe, NU will be playing on 3/12, when my son is having his birthday party (thankfully - at a restaurant with TVs!).
