I'm a bit surprised that we aren't getting any reports from those "close to the program" regarding some of the more interesting question marks for this year's team, such as:
- how is Falzon moving and shooting coming off his surgery and rehab?
- ditto for Rap and what kind of player does he look like in practice?
- how do the newcomers look: AG and AJ?
- any news on the development in skill or physique for returning players (we got a nugget on Ash, but that's all so far)

Is it normal for things to be this quiet, or is CCC intentionally keeping a very tight lid on info this offseason? Anyone know?

I was desperate enough to listen to a 30-minute podcast Jon Scheyer did with CC. There was no news. It was fun hearing about his experiences at Duke, and a little chilling to hear him say that he loves Duke and will always have Duke blood in his veins.

For a while, I've been wondering if there's any pattern to how this staff works to build hype and get the message out about a recruiting class and specific players.

After the string of Cormac Ryan stories, my cheap theory was that it was a last-ditch effort to sway him with a demonstration of the role of the Chicago media can play as the program grows.

OTOH, there was a lot of access when MacIntosh was recruited also. So I don't think the Ryan theory flies.

At the same time, the recruiting of Nance and Lathon was minimally reported, but kept pretty quiet until the final commitment.

You can also say the same thing for pretty high profile rejections such as Eastern and Goodwin.

I'm just not sure there's much of a pattern to this staff. They let us know when they are good and ready.

Maybe we should become one of those psychotic fan bases that swarm a kid's Twitter account? I'm kidding.

I bet that kind of attention and ongoing discussion is incredibly alluring in high school. It's probably a trait that places some schools far ahead of NU. But a kid better understand the ugly side of that fanaticism if things go bad.

NU fans may be a bit boring, but the second a kid signs they are almost always on your side ... long after school is finished.

One other factor: The kids are obviously so much more savvy with the traditional media and social media.

- Falzon will be serviceable but will never be great physically. he wil lalways battle his body
- Rap is a big 4-5 man at NU. not quick enough to guard wings. still has work to do needing to learn the offense after sitting out a year to try to crack the rotation behind skelly, falzon, benson, and pardon
- AG is a physical stud and will find minutes this year. I hear Turner has potential
- think good for all the players but have not heard anything specific

Thanks, that quenches the thirst for a bit.

It's been tight as a drum since Collins' first year. Pretty impressive, really.

I've thought a little about this a little. Basketball is really a different animal than football numbers wise. There are fewer recruits per school and many more schools but every school probably has a guy like Lou and Student Sports guys and a local paper or two. Maybe BB recruits get swamped more than FB recruits so keeping things more personal and private may be beneficial. Also the nature of the relationship between BB coaches and their teams of 15-20 players is more personal than the relationship between a FB coach and his 50-100 players.
Maybe CC wants to set that tone.
