What kind of improvements do we expect to see from him this season? Really hope he makes big strides.

Now that he's used to the college game, expect his shooting to improve big time.

If so, maybe he'll spell Mac here and there and play at Mac's level.

I recall reading a story about him and his Dad - he seems a great fit for NU.

I agree that he will score more. I worry, though, about his ballhandling skills. Gosh- I just hope he can decrease his turnovers- that and not his scoring I think will determine how much he plays and is successful for us the next three years.

I like Brown's chances for improvement over last year. I think he needed to adjust to being on a team where he isn't the only scoring option. And he needed to adjust to playing against competition that he couldn't just outrun or shoot over. Most of his turn overs, from my seat, were driven by him trying one of those two options and I like to think he settled down even towards the end of the year. Also, I like his talent and athleticism and believe he will become a viable sub for BMac in conference.

i have heard ash had a fantastic summer and will definitely challenge for back-up lead guard minutes

Again to the luxury of depth, if Ash has really taken that step forward with his game, it could provide CCC with an interesting new option in games. Ash's D has always been well above average, so in theory he could choose between an offensive spark with Brown off the bench, or energy and intensified D with Ash depending on what he feels the game requires. Would be really sweet! Plus, can't overstate the value of competition in practice.

^ Again, more options for the coaching staff (and always good to have another defensive stopper available).

If Lindsey, Hearn, etc, could make the leap after their 2nd year, Ash certainly may do so as well.

Does this mean he's finally become a scoring threat? Seems like more of a shooter than a guy who beats his man off the dribble, but would be nice if he could do both.

I have a hard time seeing Ash suddenly beating guys off the dribble. Maybe his shot is much improved? You're right that it'll be interesting to see exactly "how" Ash is much improved. I've always seen him as a really good defensive player with limited offense who's had trouble finding PT amidst our other guards.

If Ash can just improve some on his outside shot and be a guy that defenses have to account for on that end of the floor, he's got a lot of value. He's in the argument for best on-ball defender on the team. If he can be a guy that can hit open threes at a 35-40% clip on the offensive end, I think he should get 10-15 minutes a game and be a guy that comes in late game situations when a defensive stop is needed.

35-40% from beyond the arc would make him the second-best three point shooter on the roster - that's quite a big ask for a guy that hasn't really been able to see the floor for two years.

As for Brown, he needs to be substantially more efficient - he needs to cut down on bad decisions and improve his shooting percentage. Last year he was the worst shooter on the team.

I see a limit in his possibilities and imagine that our 2018 recruits will displace him.
His gig was that he was a pure shooter and he even showed in practice that he was in fact the best shooter on our squad. But when game day comes, he mostly turns into a pumpkin.
Another great talent but he leaves the pure shooting on the practice floor. If our opponents challenged our players to a game of horse then brown should be first man up.
But put a hand in front of him, and he hasnt got past common. Shooting has to be his bread and butter but he is simply too inconsistent to carry a full load unless there are injuries.
That said, he belongs. A solid 6th or 7th man.

Brown was a true freshman last year and showed he has a high ceiling. Once he improved his decision making and not force things so often he can be a very good player for NU.

And I thought it was about him being able to get his own shot.
