According nusports.com, the official kickoff time for the game is 11:01.

I'm guessing this is a TV thing, but I don't know that I've ever seen an official time one minute after the hour like that! Why not just say 11? They can trick people into getting there a minute earlier!

I swear that the game didn't kick off until like 7:12 last Saturday. Very strange.

Crap, does this mean the tailgate lots won't open until 7:01am?

When I worked the scorers table for the Bulls the tip-off was always at 7:42, even though the starting time was listed as 7:30.

The official time is always at an odd time like that, and you're right, it's largely for broadcast reasons. If BTN is scheduled to go on the air at 11:00 exactly, they need a couple of minutes to introduce the game, lineups, injuries, etc. 11:01 actually seems early to me.

The 11 am is for when people tune in. There is always and introduction of the people broadcasting and some pertinent background. Example White Sox used to state a 7:11 r(rather than 7:08) . They got a big payment from 7 11 for doing so.

When I was in Lincoln, basketball games were always scheduled at 19:05, rather than 19:00.

even that would make more sense to me though . . . 5 minutes after, 8 minutes after, ok. 1 minute after? weird.
