Don't know if best. Just know it is more of scholarships spots filled than we have had in a whileOur best hoops roster since?
That seems like an important trend to me. How many teams usually play short handed even before the injuries start.Don't know if best. Just know it is more of scholarships spots filled than we have had in a while

Agree with your main point. So if you stop trying to recruit NBA first rounders and focus on good, fairly smart players who value the chance to develop and compete at a high level, while earning a prestigious college degree, you just might find sustained competitiveness. That provides the platform for further success. Something others have deemed impossible.
I guess thats somewhat true... but isn't admissions a pretty solid filter for a lot of those guys?Agree with your main point.
To be fair, Collins has never tried to recruit NBA first rounders, with the notable exceptions of PBJ and Christie, who has a background with NU.
Doesn't he have two more seasons?I guess thats somewhat true... but isn't admissions a pretty solid filter for a lot of those guys?
My impression was that we used to offer guys who we had no real chance of getting, because they were all about basketball and were certain they'd be playing in the NBA. (whether they made it or not)
Oh the irony if Nicholson has a breakthrough season and ends up in the NBA draft...
He needs an offensive repertoire and more range. He is more mobile than Edey but not really still a big man for the current nba
Nicholson does have two seasons of eligibility, but we have not had too many guys stick around for 5 years. Buie is doing it, presumably with financial incentives.Doesn't he have two more seasons?
Seems to me because centers need a little more time to develop, big guys might play 5 years to reach their potential. Sort of like linemen in football. We saw obvious improvement in his game over the season last year. Unless the pros are begging hime to come out at the end of this year one more year could let him show some dominance.Nicholson does have two seasons of eligibility, but we have not had too many guys stick around for 5 years. Beran, Nance, Young, Audige, Gaines and Greer all left after 4 years in Evanston. All had eligibility.
I'd imagine Big Matt will be lighting up the grad transfer radar after his senior season, depending on how much he improves (which I suspect will be "significantly").
Zach Edey is taller than almost everybody in the NBA so he should be able to get his shot off anytime he gets position. And he has great touch. I would be really surprised if he can't get 10-15 minutes in the NBA.He needs an offensive repertoire and more range. He is more mobile than Edey but not really still a big man for the current nba
Zach Edey would be, at best, Boban Marjanovic. Granted, he has stuck around in the NBA for 8 seasons, but has averaged more than 10 mpg exactly one season.Zach Edey is taller than almost everybody in the NBA so he should be able to get his shot off anytime he gets position. There are lots of guys in the NBA that are close to Matt's height and many are better athletes. It's hard to project a big guy who has no moves around the basket and is not an extraordinary rebounder and shot blocker. Like I said in another post, I would be really happy if he just learned to score off of two feet around the basket. It would be great if he can be another weapon on offense when he has great position under the basket. A pump fake and a dunk would be really useful. There are only so many pick and roll dunks you can get against a decent defense. I think we pushed the limits against UCLA.
One of the great things about our defense was how few easy baskets they gave up. A credit to our big men (especially Matt).
Edey has a much, much better shot than Boban. How many players in the NBA can stop Edey’s hook shot without help? I’m not sure Boban would be an All- American if he played in college next season. Edey was the best player in college and he’s big for the NBA. Seems like the right organization could find a role for him. But the draft projections seem to agree with you.Zach Edey would be, at best, Boban Marjanovic. I would be stunned in Big Matt ever saw a NBA floor from anywhere other than his seat.Seems to me because centers need a little more time to develop, big guys might play 5 years to reach their potential. Edey cannot defend anyone at the pro level different defensive rules. Not sure he can p,ay at that pace.Edey has a much, much better shot than Boban. The worthwhile player you describe is now Nicholson's floor. Meaning next year's Matt is likely to be better than that guy (who was essentially a Big Ten rookie).I would be stunned in Big Matt ever saw a NBA floor from anywhere other than his seat.
I think we should just celebrate Big Matt for what he has become; a very strong defender that can move the ball on offense and flush the ally oops. That is a good player to have.

Under normal conditions they only get to play 4 (in 5) We should be getting done with the Covid exemptionsSeems to me because centers need a little more time to develop, big guys might play 5 years to reach their potential. He doesn't get a red shirt year?Under normal conditions they only get to play 4 (in 5) We should be getting done with the Covid exemptions
That is what gives a person 5 to play 4. But they only get to play 4. They can not have to burn the shirt if they play less than a certain number of games in a year but without injury exemptions I believe it is still 5 to play 4He doesn't get a red shirt year?
Yes but I thought that this year coming up was his fourth year playing three. Last year he was classified as JR 2Varsity. ?That is what gives a person 5 to play 4. But they only get to play 4. First need to make sure who you are talking about. (Nicholson or Lanborg) as this thread mentions bothYes but I thought that this year coming up was his fourth year playing three. Last year he was classified as JR 2Varsity. ?
I was talking about Nicholson, sorry about the confusion.First need to make sure who you are talking about. (Nicholson or Lanborg) as this thread mentions both
You made the statement that Bigs need to play 5 to develop. I commented that under normal circumstances (non COVID)they are only allowed to play 4 (they have 5 years in order to be able to play those 4 with that extra year being potentially a RS year) If you mean that it really takes 5 years to fully develop, we are not in disagreement
Now if you were asking if Nicholson has two more years of eligibility left, I believe he does as he did not play his first year nor really his second but he would still have to complete the 4th year in 5 (unless injury or covid exemption) And if given the Covid exemption for one of those years, he might even still have 3 years of eligibility.
If you were talking Lanborg, I do not know how many years he actually played. Under normal circumstances if he was there for 4 years and played all 4, he would be done, Or if he played 3 he would have one year left. But if given a Covid exemption, he would have one left if he had played 4 and potentially 1 or even potentially 2 (Covid exemption) left if he had played 3
