Law couldn't make a bucket today!

He wasn't in that boat all by himself.

The only reliable scorer today was BMac. But against the best team in the Big Ten NU had a chance to tie with a minute left. That's incredible. (as they used to say in 70's television)

NU played excellent defense today. Just excellent.

While not the traditional scorers on the team, Lumpkin and Pardon were as efficient as they could be (and against PU's bigs), shooting a combined 10 of 11 and scoring 24 pts.

If just 1 of the other 2 of "big 3" - hit on a couple more shots, the 'Cats win.

Your big guns have to show up for big games like this.

It sort of is what it is. It was an off shooting night for a great 2-way player. It's fine to point it out as a fact. Every in-depth news story on this game from every reporter who was there will note that he was 2-for-whatever. That's just a fact. If they don't note it, they've done a poor job of reporting.

What would not be fine in my opinion is calling him names or getting personal just because his shots didn't fall tonight. That's never appropriate. It is just a game and sometimes things go your way and sometimes they don't.

He still played his usual excellent defense and rebounded like a man 30 lbs stronger than he is...

Got to have our big bodies make Swanigan post up and hit the hook shot!
Pardon's hook shot is insanely fast. We need to use that more, especially in the tournament. Teams won't be ready for him. He's going to be really awesome and he's already pretty special. He also needs to take that little 10 footer more. He's so quick the mere threat of it will open up quick drives for him, even from such short range.

Why call him out? No class!
He was "called out",as you put it, because his shooting has been horrendous in the last month, plus, with the exception of the Michigan game. His defense is excellent, but we win that game tonight if Vic is not awful on offense. He is quite athletic, but, for the most part he does not shoot well. Let's be honest here.

I can't say he doesn't shoot well for the most part. He seems streaky. All I know is that I'd much rather have him on my team than those two brothers he played with in high school and got all the accolades. I'll take Vic Law on my team over those two all day and twice on Sunday.

Please! He shot 20% for the month of February - about the worst in the country. That's not "streaky", it stinks!

You mention one month. He has played 6 for us and is entering his 7th.

You're right about Lump and Pardon. Lumps were mostly gimmes from great cuts. Pardon's were high, high degree of difficulty shots.

During the last 5 weeks, with the Michigan game the exception, his shooting has been terrible while we are making an NCAA tournament run. His defense is great. So tell me, what is Vic's career shooting percentage?

Find your own stats if you're going to dump on one of our best players. I'm sure as heck not doing that for you.

Or better yet, just stop.

....I would just add, Larry Bird couldn't hit a shot against MSU in the '79 Championship game. It's college, it's up and down every week.

Law has had a great year. Without Law, NU isn't in the tournament.

I wonder if his shoulder is bothering him? I think it was the non shooting shoulder but He still as to raise it to get a shot off.

I already gave you the stats. He's an athletic player and an excellent defender - he just doesn't shoot very well.

Law is a great kid, a very good player and defender and a below average shooter. Larry Bird he is not! We sure didn't win much without Lindsie, though.

I'm not asking you for stats. You're asked me for stats.

You gave me one month of stats. You asked for the rest. Again: get them yourself.

Completely disagree. If you're talking pure shooting (versus shot making), Law is the second or third best shooter on the team. Falzon, Brown and Bmac are in that mix.

Shotmaking is BMac and Scottie. Then Law.

Vic has to work on his upper body strength and his decision making which together will put him in better position to have greater success.

Relax, he doesn't shoot very well. Otherwise he is a very athletic player and quite important to the team's success.

You're telling me to relax? You're the one dumping on him over his shooting percentage. A one month percentage. He's played 6, going on 7 months. Your criticism is farcical.

So for the third time now, if you want the stats, stop reiterating your 1/6-backed up position that his shooting sucks - and go get the stats yourself.

Medill90, This is perhaps the most nonsensical thing I've ever read. Anyway, so be it. On to the Big Ten Tournament and the NCAA's

It's a 5 week percentage, and I'm simply stating a fact. Vic shot very poorly when Lindsie was out, and we lost most of our games during that stretch. If you don't believe it I can't help you.
He is very athletic, just not a great shooter. I'm not dumping on anybody, just pointing out a fact. I saw Vic play in a H.S.tournament twice and he scored 7 and 9 points and did not shoot very well. That said, he is a very valuable member of the team, and I'm glad we have him.

Reiterating your position doesn't change how wrong and incomplete it is.

I'm done. You're stuck with your position. I'm not going to go any further with this. One month does not a career make.

You are a said case, and, of course, have no meaningful response. I did the research and Vic's shooting percentage on the year is 6th on the team. Nonetheless he's very valuable. Don't make me go back to his first year, which will really embarrass you.

I'm finished with this. You took a horrible position against one of our best players and still haven't backed it up other than to now claim that you did.

I'm finished. I have no desire to fight with you. What you said speaks for itself and you will be judged by it. You are not going to take me down with you so I am out.

Its amazing how bmac switched out his worst games against indiana teams, with his best games.
Regarding Law, he hasnt had his shot in the last several games. He will work things out.

I'd switch a healthy Scottie with BMac for shot making/creating. Move law down from just shooting. My order for pure shot would be Taphorn Brown Falzon Lindsey then Law.

This isn't a reply to that but someone previous. He is a streaky shooter not a poor or good shooter. Isn't this the same guy that went 7-10 against Michigan? Also remember the end of his freshman year when he got hot and went on a tear. Bad games not make you a bad shooter he just has hot and cold spells. He had a cold game. Luckily for him though he doesn't need to score to greatly impact the team as a more than solid rebounder and our best on ball and perimeter defender. Law had a bad shooting game and more than fine game otherwise basketball isn't all about scoring. It never comes down to one player being the reason a team lost it's a team game. If any northwestern player hit a couple more shots we win.

Thoughts on game and season:
1. NU's 21 wins were about its ceiling. I saw 22 as its maximum this season and this was before it was announced that Falzon would medically redshirt;
2. NU lost 6 winnable games where another scorer or shooter like Falzon or if the reports on Rapolas are true, they could have won: 1. Butler, 2. ND, 3. Minny, 4. UofI at home, 5. Indiana and 6. Purdue at home come quickly to mind. In all those games, NU had the lead or were tied or down by one with three minutes or less in the game;
3. Lindsey looked like he turned the corner in the first half and had a couple of shots rim out in the second half where we could see him with his hands on his knees at times. He does not have his stamina back yet;
4. Law was off in his shooting, but he needs to go to the tape and work on his form in practice the next three days and those shots will fall;
5. Tap hadn't played for a long stretch and was not in rhythm on his missed three. He will be back;
6. Swanigan is a stud and will be drafted in late first round. He was fired up;
7. Purdue fans were respectful, very knowledgeable and passionate;
8. Love to see McIntosh playing big at the end of the season where he faded in his first two seasons;
9. Great roller coaster ride of a regular season with a number of players being much improved like Skelly, Pardon, Lindsey, Law and McIntosh. Good times ahead!

Relax, he doesn't shoot very well. Otherwise he is a very athletic player and quite important to the team's success.

He is second in 3pt % on the team only to Taphorn. And, since he is keyed on by virtually every opposing defense, the vast majority of those 3s were contested, whereas the vast majority of Tap's 3s were not. You were saying again?

Law's game logs <<== Click.
It seems he was shooting relatively well up to the second Nebraska game. In the first Indiana game he went 2-12 (1-5). Since then the only bright spot seems to be Michigan (70%). 2-20 against Purdue over both games.
Perhaps, something has been bothering him, since that Nebby game, physically or otherwise?

I still wonder if RI or Falzon get a chance to unseat Law next fall if his O doesn't improve. Personally, I will hope for Lindsey 2.0 in that Law comes in next season with a new found ability to put the hoop in the basket outside a dunk.

Not sure I would agree his D has been excellent. I would say streaky.

True - but NU also then only has 9 on scholarship and Tap or Brown plays FT minutes. Probably not in the NIT either. Same could be said for any of the 5 starters.

Vic needs to work on his ability down low. Added strength and experience should help.

As far as 3 point shooting, he's better at this point in his career (statistically) than Shurna was...so I'm gonna give it a bit before saying he's not a good shooter. He's also at around 38.5% on the year from three, which is not elite, but respectable.
