Nice article, but it was Chesson, not Peppers, who returned the opening kickoff for the TD.
Fitz mentioned the fact that they held Peppers in check on punt returns, but part of that was the result of our punts not going very far. Not exactly outkicking the coverage there. A 35-yard punt with a fair catch isn't always going to help win the field position battle...

Good article but it was disturbing to hear that all of those bad short punts were planned to keep the ball away. Disappointing.
Why? Peppers is a threat to score any time he gets his hands on the ball. Seemed like a sound strategy to me.

Fitzgerald is delusional if he thinks "little mistakes" were the reason NU lost yesterday. He was more accurate when he said "When you get your fanny whooped the way we did today, you gotta look for small victories." Because that game was simply an old fashioned ass kicking.

Obviously Fitz coached passively and tentatively because he didnt trust his own guys so he did stupid things to give michigan td and great field position by self fulfilling them.
Sorry but i trust Long and walker who have played smashmouth football...pounding punt returners all year. Thats how you limit any punt returner. Fitz obviously prepared the game plan to target kick the kickoffs into a quadrant, thereby adjusting our kickoff team, and doing dope punts that coughed up great field position for our opponent and poor field possession for our offense.
Trust your guys to make plays. We arent good enuf to play on our heels.

Not as bad as 38-0 looked! Kickoff for td ... Int for td... Td against second team at the end u take those away its 17-0! I hate our kickoff guy every other team boots them in endzone that set the tone early but if we go and get that fourth and one down 14-0 who knows what happens! Confidence and morale buster right there!
Harbaugh trusted his team to make plays, fitz intentionally put his team on its heels and prevented big plays by us.
We had four KO returns sontheir guy had less than half of his 7 (!) out of the end zone
iour return coverage has always been an issue for us even though the first five games we have been fortunate! Point is Mitchell kicks them out of end zone at a higher rate! Not buying the injury thing with him anymore!
Apparently the AP and Coaches poll voters agreed. Our dropping just a few points in both polls says it all.
Michigan looks better than Ohio State right now. It should be a heck of a game this year when they play in November.
