NU and PSU defeated our cupcakes, but the teams that faced competition got smoked. Not a good look for the conference.

Torvik has the B1G as the 4th in the nation, and the distance to #1 is big

B12 - .8879
SEC - .8319
BE - .8231
B1G - .8160
P12 - .8140
WCC - .7869
ACC - .7391

In 2021 the B1G was #1 ahead of the B12. 2022 and 2023 it was B12 #1 and B1G #2.

The lack of success the BIG is having in the tournament lately is starting to catch up with us. The perception is changing and it doesn't surprise me that the BigEast has passed us by.

Hunter Dickinson put up 27 points and 21 rebounds in 37 minutes for Kansas in their win over Kentucky.
He took the NIL money and left - although its a major coaching and exposure upgrade as well in his case.

While it is extremely early, I'd say Michigan looks much better this year without him.

Obviously, he's a very good player, but sometimes chemistry matters more as we saw in Evanston last year.

I guess people tend to think in deterministic ways. Like lot of things in life, college basketball is cyclical. It seems like a down cycle for the B1G, but as been already pointed out, the B1G was on top not that long ago. Look at the ACC for chrissakes. Come back in 2~3 years and things will be different, maybe with the B1G back on top again.

We were perceived to be on top, but the tournament performance of the BIG the past 20 some years revealed we weren’t really. The media isn’t falling for it anymore.

I think it is too early to panic and sometimes a Conference may be strong but it may not seem that way because the teams expected to be the strongest are stumbling but unexpected teams are improved. Anyways the Big Ten is currently #3 in the Conference RPI ratings and #2 in the Conference NET ratings. I think if it remains in the Top 3 or 4, then it will remain a 7+ NCAA bid league. The bigger question for the Big Ten is will it continue to flop in the NCAA tournament? Is there something that could be done to improve tournament performance? Is the conference tournament pushed up to close to the NCAA tournament or is there something else schedule-wise it could do? I seem to recall the Maryland coach crying about the Big Ten's scheduling as a obstacle to tournament success last year.

Only thing that matters, in practical terms, is how many bids the B1G gets. This year it won't be 10 or 11. It will probably be more like 8.

That's what ultimately matters for us.

Not NU! They've won every game in the tourney they were seeded to win (can't remember if they were considered an underdog against Boise or Vanderbilt, but it wouldn't surprise me). And they were competitive against teams that were supposed to beat them. So let people claim Purdue and Michigan State are flopping, but not NU!
