I know that is only one statistic but how can one lose 40 to 3 but have more yardage it just is incomprehensible.

Not putting together a complete game. this is a telling statistic, suggesting the players are good, but something else is not.

Watching this, I had a flashback to the 1995 Cats/Wisconsin game. Wisconsin moved the ball all day but turned it over about 6 times. The Cats took advantage and won 35-0, but I think the Badgers had about 200 yards more than NU.

65 of those yards came in the 4th qtr. Matt Stafford piled up massive numbers chasing leads in losing efforts when he was with the Lions.

NU has no explosiveness in the offense, both based on their skill players and on the approach of the offense.

NU’s offense is Mike Hankwitz’s ‘bend but don’t break’ dream. (I think they actually had five 20-yard plays today, an uncommonly high number.)

UI was probably playing bend don’t break. Allowed plenty of running between the 20s but knew as soon as we got close to the red zone we’d stall or turn it over. Not even sure why we stopped running it.
