Lovie Smith

I had to Google to see where he even was (Texans HC). Google also reveals he is 64 years old. Does not seem like a good choice at all given his poor recent track record, and recruiting was also poor at UI under Lovie.

The book on Lovie is that he was a poor recruiter but it turned out the cupboard wasn't bare when Bielema arrived. His credentials as being a HC in the NFL as a defensive specialist is still impressive. Can he attract transfers and open groups/areas of HS players outside NU's prep heavy comfort zone? I wonder, however, if Lovie is old news for young players?

I would say he almost certainly is, but 1) what do I know? and 2) I bet no high school students were beating down the door to play for poor recruiter/old man Mike Hankwitz and that worked out pretty well for us

But honestly...of all the available coaches in the galaxy, what does Lovie matter and why does this career NFL guy want to go back to the college ranks and work for Pat Fitzgerald?

Lovie is a nice guy and smart coach who can't seem to win...should retire or be a consultant or something else if he wants to remain in football.
