Lunch hasn't even started yet, but I have a few notes. I missed most of player availability today, but got a few tidbits from other media guys who were there.
Warren Long's move to linebacker was all about getting more playing time. He actually approached Fitz about making the move last year, and they revisited it after the season and decided it would be best for all involved. NU obviously feels very good about running back -- I'm hearing Jesse Brown is looking good, as is Jeremy Larkin -- and linebacker is thin. Long made the point that he played both ways in high school and that NU was the only school recruiting him as a running back.
I also got a few minutes with Tommy Doles at the tail end. He's working at left guard. So, left to right, the No. 1 line right now looks like it will be Blake Hance, JB Butler, Brad North, Doles and then a question mark at left tackle. Doles said that Ben Oxley and Andrew Otterman are battling there. It sounds like Oxley would probably be the starter right now.
More to come. We're just sitting down now and Fitz hasn't shown up yet.
