Folks, don't fool yourselves. NU DESPERATELY NEEDs to beat Purdue. That would be ONLY its second win over a major-conference team doing real well (significantly above .500) in its league this year. This is even more important because:
(a) Wiscy has dropped significantly in the rankings since the Cats beat them (currently out of the top 15!) and still has four relatively tough games coming up (at MSU/OSU, vs Minny/IOA). For them to drop at least 2 of those wouldn't be shocking, and that would make them drop some more from the rankings (possibly out of the top 20).
(b) Getting swept by a relatively weak Illy won't look good on selection Sunday.
Beating Purdue (hopefully in the top 10 by then) would help a lot in view of the above.
And even with a PU win, the cats can't afford to drop both Indy and Michy. They should beat at least one of those, preferably Michy which is playing better. Of course beating both (plus PU) would be much better, and ensure a bid under most imaginable scenarios.
Finishing 1-2 or worse would necessitate a lot of help, plus a strong showing in the BTT.
