I know I should hate the guy for the torture he's put NU through the last few years, but I can't do it. Melo Trimble is one of my favorite Big 10 opponents ever.

Another great game tonight (except for the six turnovers). Good luck Mr. Trimble, wherever you go next year.

There's a few guys we should all hate but don't... Dee Brown is easily my favorite non-NU player to ever watch, in both basketball and football. Absolutely loved Dee Brown and that entire 2005 Illinois team.

Speaking of opposing players torturing the 'Cats - hope Huerter (despite his play last night) doesn't end up being one of them.

On the offensive-end, Huerter reminds me of Coble.

What's that cartoon where the coyote gets fooled every time, over and over and over again and gets blown to smithereens by his own dynamite?

That's what I think of when I see defenders come out on Trimble and guard him 20 feet from the basket.

Why teams don't just pack it in on him and force him to shoot 3s is beyond me.

The guy is super special as a driver and a slasher. Super special. He can blow past anybody. Usually 2 people. Clearly his best skill.

But as just another guy on the perimeter jacking 3s, he's a fine college player but that's pretty much all he is - a threat but not the stone-cold killer the way he is once he puts the ball on the floor.

I just had to laugh at the way he drew our defenders out to him outside the 3 point line and then just blew past them and got to the hole. Again and again and again. I would tell whoever is guarding him that if they ever get anywhere near the 3 point line with him, they're out of the game. If he lights you up, so be it, it you just can't hand that guy 20 PPG of layups because that creates another 20 in dishes when we collapse on him and he hits the open guy. But what do I know? We tried that when we played them earlier and he rained 3s on us!

I'm glad we're done with him.

I'm a huge fan of his. A great player, cool as a cucumber, clutch, and a big competitor. Seems to be a good kid from everything I've read. Nothing but respect for him.

Watching Melo play in the Pan Am games two summers ago biased me against him.

But in watching him the subsequent two years, I've really grown to like him. He seems like a good teammate, patient with the younger kids and explains stuff, and not a dick.

Good luck to Melo.

I also like the coach who should never play poker. This is not a high point for officiating in the big ten and the Maryland coach aint great at hiding it.

Those refs were terrible last night. Just terrrible. Ticky tack calls both ways on virtually every possession. Just insane. The Big Ten needs to tone this down.

I've got two current gripes with officiating....maybe three.

* The biggest is around the post play when a post defender has position in the paint against a big man with the ball. I'm talking the aircraft carrier types with the ball. They put the ball on the floor for a dribble or two and literally knock the defensive player back. But, cuz it's happening on the dribble, it's ok. The defender owns that space and moving him off with a hard bump is a foul.
* The second is blowing the whistle around the phantom call. If you didn't see it happen, don't blow your whistle. The replay is going to show that nothing happened and you're gonna look like a dick.

If I had a nickel for every time these happen in a Big Ten game I'd fly to D.C. in first class to watch today's game.

Last thing....any call against Sanjay. Sanjay doesn't foul. Doesn't happen.

Yeah, it was amazing to see him play in person. What a talent.

A few of us were gushing over him late in the game and some near by Maryland fans countered us with "he's not that great".

I gave them a blank stare...to be that spoiled.

Those hard bumps by the offensive center are my biggest gripe. Those are offensive fouls, period.
