Mike Greenberg has heart procedure done, is recovering

I knew him somewhat well at NU. Really a great down to earth guy who could get along with everyone and anyone. Just a nice guy all around.

Primarily done to address issues with an irregular heartbeat, correct?

That this procedure exits is a testimony to research and science in understanding the how and why of cardiac arrhythmias. Before it the person would be in need of anticoagulation as well as the fear of strokes. Greenie should be back to his own self eventually.

Yea. A fib most commonly.
I experience a fib on occasion (carryover from surgery in 2012 for ASD closure). My cardiologist has mentioned ablation but doesn't think it's necessary at this point. Seems to be a relatively simple procedure with high efficacy.

All in all, it’s a safe procedure as can be. Only issues that I’ve seen are where you block too many erroneous points, and the heart goes into ventricular finrillation or some random arrhythmia, and a person suffers sudden, cardiac death. Very rare.

One of the few complications is being a bleeder, which I was because I was on a blood thinner (Eliquis) prior to the procedure. When the catheter was removed, I didn't clot for probably over an hour. As a consequence, the blood pooled up in my leg and groin area and didn't dissapate for about 3 weeks. Not painful, but irritating.
