Just as they did in the first half, Northwestern gets off to a quick start to the second half. 42-23 NU thanks to a 5-0 spurt.

We are playing well, but Minny is defending literally like they have never seen a ball screen before....

This rout is arguably worse than the one at the Barn.

Loved the effort tonight. But why were Mac, Tre and Olah playing after the 10 minute mark? Would have loved to see Ash, Lindsey, Falzon, Skelly and Pardon for most of the last 10.

Pardon saw plenty of action in the 2nd half. No need to play him more. He'll be needed down the stretch. Skelly and Lindsay saw minutes relatively early in the 2nd half too.

Regarding BMac, I get the sense Collins wanted to keep him riding the positive momentum of tonight's performance. He sat much more than usual the last 3 games with the lopsided results.

Believe it had a lot to do with Minny keeping their starters in and pressing the whole time.

And Demps?

Perfect chance to play ash and lindsey in real time for extended period.

And next year they will all be back. Would be nice to see our back court options in a no lose scenario - up over 25.

You're a bit of a broken record. Maybe you should express your opinions directly to Collins.

It might also help if you came across as having some balanced observations.

And stop picking your nose, and zip up your fly!

(It's been a tough day for you on the boards today, hasn't it xzybob. Let's chill out and go zip lining.)

Broken record? C'mon man!

My particularly controversial campaign related to bball has not even come up on this thread - so I won't start it here.

Balanced:

Pros for NUMBB:
  • CCC can recruit - best string of players since who knows
  • Roster has some talent right now
    • Maybe best PG in NU hx
    • Exciting young C
    • High potential 3/4 in Falzon
    • Another wing on IR that seemingly arrived in the second half last year
    • Lindsey starting to show flashes
  • Incoming talent appears to be even better
    • Could possibly be fielding the most highly rated lineup in NU hx at times next year with 4* at the 2,3,4,5
  • No horrible losses this year - PSU was bad, but not like NU FB losses this year
  • Have won when we were supposed to win, loss when we were expected to lose
  • Post season discussion remains relevant going into February
Cons:
  • X's & O's are questionable
    • Too much standing around on O - not last night though!
    • D comes and goes - took too long to embrace necessity of zone
  • PT seems to be more loyalty than performance based BUT
    • Pardon started last night
    • Lindsey has gotten some nice minutes lately
    • Demps has found his shot (I still think too much was sacrificed along the way but he is a controversial play)
  • Overuse and wear down of players - Mac and Demps
  • Short sighted - not looking for PT for the future guys
On that last point, with 10 minutes left and up by 26, no need for Mac and Demps to be on the floor. Risking injury and continuing to subject them to bumps and bruises of B1G play. Could have run Ash and Lindsey in the back court and gotten a feel for how these two can play. Next year, Mac will need to sit for 5 minutes or so. Unless we run another true frosh out there, Ash and Lindsey will be the back court. Why not give them B1G PT now and see what happens?

And please don't tell me chemistry. I saw Sanjay whip the ball to Hall towards the end - because he gets it - Hall doesn't see the floor and they all want Hall to enjoy his moments. So, running out next year's back court in a blow out will not wreck any chemistry.

But Pete - c'mon. These are not the Bronx Bombers - perfect without need of anything. Can you not be critical and supportive? Is it such a rotten thing to talk about ways to improve? If not, then why hang around here. Rainbow and lollypops - boring as sh!t. I want to talk about how things should be tweeked and improved. If they happen - then I can say 'see.' If it then flops, you can say 'that is why it didn't happen earlier.' OK, fine - at least the discussion is engaging.

I have been rooting for NU sports since I went to school there. Not many athletes at NU - I was one. I have always enjoyed sports and enjoyed talking about my teams. I often listen to sports radio when I'm driving around. Really enjoyed the old days with Mac, Yurko and Harry and guys' talk before ESPN ruined it. You can call me a troll, a non fan, whatever your little heart desires - sticks and stones, my friend. Truth is that I bleed purple, black and silver, blue and orange, black and red. If you don't like what I am thinking about - use the Ignore feature like shakes. I think he is happier now.

Otherwise, engage me. Let's talk sports. Let's try not to make it personal - unless that's your thing - and I'm happy to engage you there too. But let's have some fun on this small and often boring board. (Send me CCC's email - I will email him a link. I doubt he has time to take my call.)

Not at all - in fact, except having to bounce between two threads, I really enjoyed our debate today. You are wrong, but it was still fun ;) And we both have now taken a position that can be evaluated down the line with the new Rivals archiving.

And I have truly enjoyed our barbs. My ribs still are not healed - been playing pickup bball and the groans that sneak out with contact surprise me. (I don't call fouls often but have unintentionally stopped play with my groans going to the basket and taking body hits...) But, I have the scuba trips lined up for 2016 and 2017 - Cozumel, Belize, camping in Door County and diving Green Bay, Palau and Chuuk (2017) and Cuba (2017). (Actually going on a scouting trip to Cuba in May too.) So Glades - ready to come diving with me? I promise that you will not drown...fed to sharks perhaps...but not drowned.

Xyz, I have been reading these boards far longer than I have been posting since I just recently signed up. But I am already tiring of you having to make the same point on multiple threads, and multiple times to boot! Let's give CC some time to build this program, a program that has NEVER tasted an NCAA Tournament. You can't turn that type of mentality around overnight!

I will be perfectly satisfied with an NIT birth this year if it leads to the ultimate prize within the next year or two. The fact that we have lost to most of the NCAA Tournament contenders in this conference shows me NU does not have the experience yet to be consistently competitive against the elite teams in this conference, despite some flashes against Maryland and Wisconsin this year. We get to 20 wins and hopefully a top 90 or so RPI, and I think that may be enough to at least earn a first round road game in the NIT.

No bad losses like football??? All the football losses were to highly ranked teams. Penn State home loss was ugly and non-competitive (I was there) and they've only won 2 BIG games so far. The Indiana and Michigan State losses were at least as embarrassing (if you want to call them that) as the three football losses this year. I actually enjoy your passion xyzbob, but you often overstate your case to fit your narrative.

I think bad losses is subjective. I find the blow out losses by our nationally ranked FB team bad. Bb lost when they were supposed to lose except PSU, and I didn't feel that was a bad loss based on our history with PSU. But that is just my opinion.
