Now that I see Mississippi State is ranked 25th, I don't feel so bad. I had no idea if they were good or not as I watched the game, only that they finished better than the Cats did. Hopefully this is what we will consider a good loss as the season progresses.

I think it will ultimately be a "good" loss because MSU is missing their best player, Tolu Smith, who is a 6'11" double-double machine and 1st Team All SEC player. I think he's supposed to return for conference play so, if he does, MSU should be a strong team in the SEC.

I did not watch either of the games of the past weekend live. But just watched them later as B1G+ makes them available next day. Even if they aired elsewhere.

RI is a terrible team that was still a much better opponent than facing the likes of Western Michigan. At least RI has bigger and quicker bodies. What it does not have is players with any kind of refined decision making. I don’t see them having a good year in the A10. Archie Miller still has a stupid face.

MS State looks legit to me. They are not UCLA but reminded me of what I felt seeing our guys battling both teams. Going up against clearly bigger and faster. The difference to MS State is not as big as with UCLA, but other than our big guys, our players were all shorter, lighter, and slower. But made better decisions and were a pain on defense… for 3/4 of the game.

I did not see this difference in athleticism in the B1G last year. We just showed we can play with anyone. Just like… last year.

I’m optimistic and did not see the loss as anything to piss me off or raise alarms.

What raises alarms is MN’s total lack of production this year. Haven’t been able to watch every minute they’ve played so far so I don’t have a great idea why that’s happening, but it’s the exact opposite of hopes and expectations

MN is a mystery this year.

He was a big reason the NU defense improved last year and produced a few points from lobs.

Need more scoring from the bench. Cant be playing our starters 30-plus minutes a night in the BIG. Hope we can develop that in this next month.

NU is a developmental program. The bench guys need some time. It’s hard to expect much from the bench in November, but they’ll get better. I’m encouraged by what I’ve seen from Clayton and Martinelli. Even the little bit from Hunger on Sunday provided a glimmer of hope.

I don't know if he did anything wrong but I thought Hunger did really well.

Oh boy... don't you start doing this too.

Obviously, I was being a little flip with my response. However, the move that Hunger made in the game Sunday seemed pretty instinctual and based on his talent handling the ball. Whereas defense in this modern era of basketball is so much about positioning and communication and learning the defensive system. So, I think he will get better at both offense and defense, but he already comes prepared with a set of offensive tools and he can also be taught how to play better defense.

I was pleasantly surprised by a bit of an improvement from Hunger against Miss St. Let's hope the uptick continues.

But for now, I think he's playing appropriate minutes in a group of pretty mediocre big men. He's eating some minutes.

I'd really like him to put that three-point shot back in his pocket.
