something like 82 teams will go to the post season next year. this, coupled with tougher scheduling, seems like a virtual guarantee that 5-7 teams will be rewarded with postseason bids.

and, of course, I can't resist stoking the flames of..."if we can't make a bowl even now, then what about this staff??"

Too bad that the post season (bowls) is being expanded. I guess more teams will get an extra couple weeks practice.

If if if. If my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle. How about we wait and see how the season plays out.

Lake Wobegon, where all the teams are above average.

Two-thirds of the 127 D-1 teams will make the "post-season" this year. So does that mean two-thirds of D-1 teams have winnng records in any given year? If so, D-1 truly is "Lake Wobegone."

Maybe they will experiment with an NIT playoff system for sub 6-6 teams. Like the good ol Prep Bowl consolation bracket.

Sounds like a great thing. Tim Beckman will not have a winning season, but Illinois will be forced to keep him because he'll be going bowling a lot.

Somehow I sense even if we end up 5-7 we will still be the odd man out. The academic rule never helped us yet despite our being "eligible" at 5-7 at least twice since the new rule has been in effect. Something to do with a goat buried under Ryan Field I suppose.

Would you seriously want to go to a Bowl at 5-7? Best case you still finish the season with a losing record.

I think the team should be asked that not the fans. If the kids like football and want to have another game, then they should get to go. If it's a season like last year where we were had tons of injuries and lots of guys playing hurt, then maybe the team decides to get healthy instead of playing the game. Or maybe guys that are fighting nagging injuries would expect to be better by the bowl game and would want another shot.

I always like more football from NU, even when the season has been a disaster. I'd certainly have taken an extra game the last two years, which were just disappointments but not disasters.

It wasn't like they took other 5-7 teams in our place. The academic rule has never helped us because it hasn't yet applied to anyone, us included. No curse or conspiracy necessary.
