Mountain West struggles

Nevada is basically a place where people go to escape reality. The problem with that is reality eventually finds you, and very often kicks you in the nuts.
Nevada was pretty damned good during the era of Nick Fazekas. (They were also in the WAC then, not the Mountain West, so maybe that's why.)

My Aztecs looked nervous but I like their path now to the Sweet Sixteen with their next game against Furman. SDSU is a solid team that is very athletic and has a top defense. The question has always been their offense.

Another factor is travel distance which I think cannot be underestimated. The Aztecs had to travel across the country to play Charleston which only had a relatively short distance to travel even though they were a lower seed. Similar situation with NU and Boise State.

Boise State has nothing remotely resembling the athletes in a power conference, no idea how they're one of the strongest regarded mid majors.
